Which School?

I am looking to apply to some reach schools, meaning that I will most likely use my ED on one of these. They are all good schools so I want to use it on one that I have the highest probability of getting accepted.
Out of these which ones should I eliminate from my college list and which one would I have a shot with ED?
Cornell(Looking at CAS), Brown, Dartmouth, University of Chicago, Tufts, Georgetown,Williams, Swarthmore, Amherst.

PS. I will obviously have my match schools and safeties. Im just trying to eliminate the ones that I would be wasting my time on.

General Info:

Your best chances would be at Tufts, but I think you comitting with the ED there would be a waste. It’s tough to say what you should do in this case, because the schools on your list have crisscrossing ED/EA policies (i.e. Brown, Georgetown), so instead of applying to the school you think you would have the best shot at, find the school that you actually like the most or has the best program for you.

As it stands, if you can raise your SAT score to what you are predicting, all of the Ivies + Amherst will be decent reaches due to your sparse ECs and ORM status. The other schools on your list are more targets/matches.

Do you mean it would be a waste because I would probably get rejected or a waste because I should use it on a more selective school??

Also, Which of the schools are targets and matches?? Whats an ORM??

Sorry for these questions =/

^No, I meant that you should use it on a more selective schools; you will be fine as a regular candidate for Tufts.

I’d say that Tufts is a match, and Georgetown, Chicago and Swarthmore are higher matches.

A ORM is an overrepresented minority, i.e. an Asian. Being Asian will decrease your chances of admission to most schools, because this demographic is on average much more qualified than any other.

If I decide to use my ED on Cornell lets say, would it be advisable to get rid of Brown, Dartmouth, Duke,Williams, Amherst because my chances there owuld be close to zero b/c im not going there ED?

Vice Versa if I use the one of the other schools for ED

Absolutely not. You are far from having a 0% chance at any of the schools on your list. Yes, most of them are reaches, but having a relatively low chance of admission is not the same as having no chance whatsoever. Keep in mind that kids will regularly get into their reach schools"; your application is good enough to, at the very least, be considered at the Ivies etc.

This is of course all tantamount to you doing as well on your SAT as you predict; if you are unable to raise your score by that much, I would advise you to re-think your list of colleges.

Oh damn. I was hoping to hear some bad news LOL.

I have like forty colleges in mind just by eliminating the ones really far or ones that give close to no aid. All of them are reaches and matches. I need to eliminate alot lol. The reason I cannot eliminate them is because I am going in undecided, so any school have the academics im looking for…

Can you suggest a school to use my ED on?? Just based on my chance of being accepted? I know this isn’t the best way to decide but I just don’t know what school to look at…

Also, is it good to take JHU and Carnegie Mellon off my list if I am not definite on going into med or enginerring?
