<p>Take a look at the three DC schools: Georgetown (reach), George Washington (match) and American University (safety/match). You will have numerous opportunities for interesting internships, hearing speakers who are making the laws, studying with faculty who have the connections you need and with guest faculty who are the proverbial ‘movers and shakers’, and lots of chances to see the process in action (or inaction).</p>

<p>How much of a reach will Georgetown be for me? Do I have a decent shot or is it just apply and hope?</p>

<p>I’ve looked at various sources on matching your stats with colleges, and some tell me I’m in the mix of things while others show that I really don’t have a chance.</p>

<p>Based on grades and test scores alone, Georgetown is a major reach. But there can be a lot of other factors that play into deciding whether you have any reasonable chance: Was your freshman year especially weak and the rest of your performance very strong? Do you come from an under-represented part of the country? Have you had interesting international/life experiences (lived abroad, speak multiple languages, been a foreign exchange student, home-schooled, etc…), have you done something that is unique and differentiating in other areas? I assume you are not a URM who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, or you would have mentioned it. </p>

<p>I suspect, without evidence, I should add, that if you are politically conservative, you have a (small) advantage because both groups are under-represented in the student population and good schools want diversity to foster decent discussion.</p>

<p>Georgetown is a reach.</p>

<p>Do you know how much your parents will pay each year for your education? If not, ask them. That will largely determine where you should apply and where you’ll attend school.</p>

<p>Once we know what your financial needs are, we can better recommend some schools. </p>

<p>If your parents will pay whatever a school costs, then you’ll have lots of options.</p>
