Out of HYPS which schools don't want letters of rec sended in folded?

do they really care?

lol i love how ccers pay attention to these kinda details

you're not serious...are you?!

Stanford is one. Not sure about the rest, lol

Some schools state clearly on every paper to not fold.
Like Columbia last year, i think

Both Harvard and Yale don't like their papers folded. So use the 9x12 envelopes for them. But Princeton doesn't seem to care. But why take a chance? You should use the large envelopes for all your HYPS type applications. Good luck.

Wow. I never knew they even cared.

Do not staple, paper clip is ok

Do not fold

Do not send folders

They make multiple copies of each application material for review.

My school folds everything. They've folded everything for years. Plenty of students have been accepted to Ivies. So obviously folding does not equal instant rejection.

How anal of the schools ... Well, my daughter got into Brown but not into Yale. I never would have guessed it was the folded letters of recommendation. She also stapled. I guess she didn't stand a chance :) Oh well, she preferred Brown anyway.

Is this explained somewhere in the directions and we just missed it? Or is it some secret stash of knowledge only the elite find out about?

When i applied to Columbia last year it said at the top of some papers "Please do not fold"..

Didn't see anything like that on the Yale application. My son didn't make it into Stanford and I'm sure folded things. Hmmmm ... he always wondered why he didn't make it in :)

the hell we'd know.

Okay I will use 9 by 12 envelopes for all the schools.

I seriously laugh when i see CCers worrying about a smudge on their papers, a backslash in their mailed essays, and whether they would get rejected because of folded applications.

He has a legitimate point. Stanford says specifically no folding.

does the no-fold policy apply for teacher and counselor recs?

yes, well, i'm sure that if you saw typed in bold on the app "Please do not fold", you would laugh and ignore what they ask you.

Yeah, I thought my daughter was anal compulsive. (Don't worry -- she calls herself that! She wants me to get her the T-shirt that reads "Is anal compulsive spelled with a hyphen?") I mentioned all this to her last night and even she was amazed.

Bear in mind this is the child that is upset because she doesn't know what her graduate theses will be about (she is a sophomore in college) and started a paper for a current class last summer ...

However, apparently at least one school, Columbia, has said not to fold. I guess it brings up the old adage about it not being paranoia if they are really out to get you :)
