Wow, is this an OCD question.
Ah, well...
For recommendations, is the generally accepted envelope size 9 x 12 or just standard size envelopes?
There are some apps that specify 9 x 12, so I was just wondering if that was what all of them should be.
What about the secondary school report?

I've given my teachers/guidance large envelopes just because i don't want to bother asking admissions whether or not folding papers is allowed (i know one of the schools i'm applying to does not want folded paper). If you want, you can research each school's preferences, or just use all large envelopes to be safe.

does it really matter

Yes, it does matter, considering if you'd read above you'd see that some schools specifically do NOT want folded papers.

Yeah.. It's also not a good idea to staple the papers together. It's the small details that really matter :P

Schools generally don't want papers folded or stapled, since they often photocopy them during the admissions process.

stanford specifically asks for 9x12. though i think that if the school doesn't specifically mention anything, it can be folded

o crap.. i've already stapled all my papers and given them to teachers..
I dont want to ask them to un-staple them either lol
oh well... admin people will live.

Among the list of things you need to worry about during the admission season, I think the envelope size + folding + stapling should be way at the bottom. It is really a minor matter.

My D gave the teachers regular #10 envelopes - they stapled and folded the recommendations and mailed them off.

I am not even going to let her read this post because then she will be all stressed out!

So if you have multiple pages, you can't staple them?

Doesn't matter either way. I'd worry that pages may fall off, or may get put in the wrong order. If I were you, I'd staple them.

Paper clips?
