Which schools turned down to attend U Delaware

It’s almost May 1st and I would imagine that most of you have decided on which school to attend. I’m guessing that some of you had tough decisions to make and eventually turn down other great schools. So I’m starting this thread in case anybody wants to share why they ultimately chose Univ of Delaware and what schools they turned down as a result. Maybe the deciding factor was a generous scholarship, or the reputation of a specific major/department you’re interested in, or the campus vibe, or being able to stay close to home… Either way, best of luck to all of you!

BTW, my daughter is 99% sure attending Delaware for Chem E and turn downs are UIUC (financial and location), Pitt (Financial), Northeastern (accepted NUin only), Rutgers (too “local”)

I chose UD because of my parents but I definitely am happy with it & completely fine with going there. I ultimately turned down UMD- I loved the school much more than UD but UD was chosen because it was cheaper for us & b/c of my major. I’m in exercise science & UD has a great Kinesiology/Physilogy program and are #2 in the country for PT grad school (what I’m thinking of going into) so my parents thought it was perfect for me.
I also turned down UIowa (too far), Sacred Heart in CT (too small & expensive) and SUNY Cortland (my dad disliked it and it was a little small). Delaware’s a perfect distance for me- 2 1/2 hours- is a public ivy/great school and has a great vibe (like Maryland, which is why I’m fine with going)
Congrats to your daughter!

Its official, my daughter placed the deposit and accepted the offer from Univ of Delaware for Chem E with a good merit aid.

Turn downs are UIUC (too far, but would have been the choice with Merit), Pitt (no merit), Northeastern (accepted NUin only, no merit), Drexel, $68K? with 15K merit, really? still too expensive), Rutgers (too “local”)

Congrats to all!!

@anjony congrats!!

I chose UD over 4 other schools I was going back and forth with, one of which declined solely because it was too much money ):
My top 5 were
Berklee College of Music
USC
UD
WSU
Elizabethtown College

I crossed out WSU quickly because it was kind of in “the middle of nowhere” and no big cities anywhere nearby, the main town of Pullman was very, very boring (no offense!). Big on agriculture out there and hunting…yeah no. Price wise it was the same as UD too.
Berklee was my top choice, however it was WAY TOO MUCH MONEY tuition-wise, I’m from a low income family and even with a $30,000 scholarship it was too much. I’m sad about it but I’m very much looking forward to UD as it was my next choice.
Elizabethtown College. I really liked the programs, I was accepted into their honors program, leadership program, and was awarded the presidential scholarship so it was definitely a winner money-wise, but the only reason I didn’t commit was because of the size, location, and alumni relations. It was half the size of my high school (1,500 total!) and in the middle of nowhereland (to me anyways, I’m from Orange County, California), it was next to the Hershey factory in Pennsylvania so the whole town pretty much reeked of chocolate and most every student in the business program ended up working at Hershey…which wouldn’t work for me.
As for USC I was wait listed and didn’t want to risk not getting to go anywhere and taking a gap year/cc if it didn’t work out and losing UD so that was that.

I deposited on May 1st for U Delaware. Super glad I did, I love the school!
I’ll be double majoring in Business Administration and Fashion merchandising, possible minor in journalism.
(Not a music major, should I have been able to go to Berklee I would’ve been on the Business Management track)
