Congratulations on your admission to Lawrence! My daughter is a biochem major at Lawrence. She is premed and the biochem major perfectly lined up with the required premed curriculum. After taking a couple of biology classes, she plans to double major in bio also. She was assigned a chemistry professor as her advisor. She has been very happy with both departments so far. You definitely don’t need to decide on a major before you start. She took bio 130 1st term, bio 150 2nd term, and Chem 116 3rd term. This was the most common combination for biochem or premeds. Her friend who is a premed chemistry major took Chem 116 1st term, Bio 130 2nd term, Bio 150 3rd term. The order doesn’t really matter as long as you get those classes done your freshman year. After taking Chem 116 and Bio 130, it will give you a better idea which way to go. You take a placement test to determine if you need to take Chem 115. Don’t be concerned if you must take Chem 115. My daughter said that most of her Chem 116 class took Chem 115. Hope that helps.
