I am going to be a senior in high school this fall, and I am really worried about the whole college selection process. My main concern is:

Would it be better to go to a state school (for me, UF), study really hard, and get around a 3.9 to a 4.0 GPA, or would it be better to go to a top school (for me, WUSTL, UPenn, Notre Dame) and probably get around a 3.0 to a 3.4?

My main goal is to get into a top MBA program (Harvard, Penn, Duke).

The more selective schools generally have more grade inflation, so it is not necessarily a given that you will get that much lower a GPA at the more selective schools.

But for MBA admissions, your post-bachelor’s-degree work experience is extremely important. Your undergraduate school and major should be chosen considering how they will help you get the good work experience after graduation (although that should not be the only consideration – you have to like the school and major, and the school needs to be affordable).

I’d recommend going to the school with the strongest program that you are admitted to, can afford, and the one that you like the most.

I think I’m going to just go to Kelley at Indiana and be in the Hutton Honors and Kelley Honors programs. I’ll be able to get a lot of scholarship money, graduate with a high GPA, and land a strong job due to Kelley’s excellent job placement.
