Which Teacher Should I Ask For Recommendation?

I'm super conflicted as to who I should ask.
Here are the two options:

Teacher #1 -
AP English teacher this year (junior year). His first year at the school; my first year having him (obviously). Great teacher with a non-traditional, process-based approach. Our class is tiny, so I participate more that I do in my other classes. I've cultivated a good relationship with him, and always come to class twenty minutes early to chat with him. His writing is amazing, and I feel as though he would write a really good recommendation. However, he doesn't really know much about what I'm involved in outside of English class (I don't think...)

Teacher #2 -
AP US History teacher this year. He's been here a couple of years, though this is my first year having him as a teacher. He has, however, been the student government advisor for 2 years (a club in which I am deeply involved in, and was the secretary of last year, and am the president of this year). He knows the full scope of my extracurricular activities. However, I don't participate as much in his class (since its gigantic), and he's not as good a writer than teacher #1.

Overall, both of these teachers would write me good recs. I get perfect grades in both their classes, and they know how much I care about their classes and going to college. But which one's recommendation would look better to an admissions committee?

Note: most colleges on my list only ask for one recommendation, so I can't get both!

Thanks!

You should ask for both so that they are both available for those schools requiring two recs. Then, in the common app, you choose which one to send to each college. If you can only choose one or are spcifying a major in the Social Sciences, go with the AP US History. If you can choose two or are specifying an English or Writing major, go with the English teacher. My son had three recommendations to choose from: Art, AP English, and AP Calc teachers, and he sent different ones depending on the school and the major focus.
