okay, i need opinions. i have three possible teachers that i can ask for a rec (i need two recs)

my anatomy teacher. i am going to ask her for sure.

but help me pick between these two:

my ap psych teacher, from last year. i got an A in the class, he liked me. i was one of the very few to get a five on the test.

negatives - i dont really think he knows me too well. we haven’t talked since last year. i am kind of expecting that it will be a pretty generic rec.

my english teacher from college. i got an A in the class. i was never planning to ask this teacher, but then when i went to register for the next quarter, i found that he had commented to my registering advisor about me and he went on and on about what a great student i was in his class. also, we wrote this short essay at the beginning of the quarter about our future plans, and he remembered what i wrote throughout the quarter. and he talked to me about them and seemed interested in what i want to do.

negatives - this class was english 101. i sort of slacked off and missed around five or six classes. none of my essays for that class were really spectacular; they were all done at the last minute. but apparently he thinks i am a good writer? also, it was a quarter class, and there were only about twenty-five meetings, so we really didn’t get to know each other too well.

so, who should i pick?

I'd try the English teacher. It seems like there's a higher chance he'd give you a distinct recommendation, and if you think he thinks you're a good writer, you're likely right. Also, it was a college class. That in itself looks good.

Agree with above post

thanks, guys. i am just a little hesitant since i actually tried my best in the psych class, but slacked a bit more in the english class.

the slacking off won't hurt, but your psych teacher not knowing you as well will -> I think the main purpose of the recs is about you as a person, not as a student (though you don't want a rec from a teacher whose class you completely blew off) and in this area the english teacher is the best option from what you said... plus he's a college teacher which I think will add a little weight

thanks tapedduck.

so you guys think the english teacher would be better even though it was just english 101?

How about asking them BOTH to write recommendations for you? First, check that each school on your list will accept a supplemental recommendation. If they will, ask them both. I would probably have the psych teacher complete the teacher recommendation form, then ask the college teacher to write a letter of recommendation for you on college letterhead. That way, colleges will get a valuable third insight into your classroom performance and intellectual potential. However, do check first about whether all of the schools will accept an extra rec - some won't.
