Hello! I took the SAT in June of this year and the ACT in December of 2013. I'm not planning on applying anywhere very selective, and I'm fairly happy with my scores. I mostly just really want to up my math score. My score for the ACT was 30, with 33 English, 25 Math, and 33 Reading (and 8 in Writing). My SAT was 1900, with 700 Reading, 570 Math, and 630 Writing.
Ideally I would retake both of the tests, but with all of the costs of Senior year so far I don't think my parents are going to be entirely thrilled about me taking both tests, even though they are relatively cheap. Anyways, I've heard that most colleges prefer/look at the SAT over the ACT, so should I do the SAT? I think I could get a much better score since I was stupid enough to schedule the SAT for the weekend before finals week, so I was already really dead. But then again, my ACT score is kind of "old", and I did it during sophomore year (and, in my typical sophomore fashion, without studying...of course I've cleaned up my act :D ).
Anyways, if I could only retake one, which one do you think I should take? Thanks a ton!

I would take a practice test for both and see how I do. If you have time, you can also try spending a bit of time studying both and take another practice test and see how you improve.

However, just looking at your numbers, your ACT score is higher than your SAT and since you took it sophomore year you probably have a better chance with it. All colleges take the ACT and I don’t think there are any that say they prefer one. I’ve heard by now they’re all used to both, so just do the one you are better at.

I think you should retake the ACT…you look like you already have the ACT down since you managed 33s in reading and English in your sophomore year. You could raise those 33s to 35s or 36s and then perhaps bring your math up to a 30+ level. Your SAT score however leaves too much to be desired. I think you would do better on the ACT.
