Hello all!

I'm quite happy tonight, as this month is going fairly well so far. I got into SJSU last month, and just today received my admission to SF State. I'm hoping to hear good news from UC Berkeley and UCSC soon! At the moment, I'm only considering the cards I currently hold (San Jose and SF). Don't wanna be getting ahead of meself.

My quandary is this: I like SF State, but I want to major in Linguistics and they only have English with Concentration in Language Studies. SJSU has a Linguistics Major.

Would it be better to go for the major in Linguistics, or the major in English with Concentration? I'm not sure what I want to do with the Linguistics degree, but I'm very interested in the field. Specifically, I would like to do something that revolved more around English language (I don't speak any other languages, but may learn in the future). I don't want to be an English major, as there are many aspects of that that don't interest me at all.

When I was in another university, I was working towards a major with a concentration, but it ended up being largely focused on the major, not the concentration. I liked the major some, but all I wanted to do was the concentration, so I left. Are all Major w/Concentrations like that?

Judging by SF State's web page for this program, it looks like I'd take about 15 units of core English Major stuff, 12 in the concentration, and 12 electives. I don't know enough about the process to understand exactly what that would be like.

Maybe I just need to be schooled on how the Major w/Concentration program works. Any and all help is much appreciated!
