Hey everyone! I have a friend that was accepted to UCSD, UCSB, UCD, and UCI under economics. Where should they go? I got in to only UCSB and Cal Poly under engineering. Where should I go? What are the good and bad things about each campus. Any input would be great. Thanks guys

While I don't know much about Cal Poly as a school, I can tell you about what I observed while staying in SLO on the way to SB last weekend. (I spent the night there.) SLO seemed like a total college town to me. Nearly everyone everywhere I went was college-aged. The workers in the stores and restaurants (college-aged as well) were all super friendly too. (My mom thought the girls sounded like valley girls.) It seemed like a cool place to live for those who wanna live in a real college town.

What you should also consider is the distance you'd have to travel in order to visit home. SLO is basically in the middle of nowhere, only connected to bigger cities via highway 101. It took me about 2 hours to get to SB from SLO and about 4 hours to get to SLO from SF. I don't know if SLO has a regular, commercial aiport, but that's something SB definitely has. (Flights are kind of expensive, though. Sadly JetBlue doesn't fly to SBA.)

Just wanted to throw some things out there for you. Hope I didn't waste your time with this long post.

For your friend, UCSD has a better reputation than the other three, which in turn are roughly equal. For you, I would recommend UCSB.

UCI and UCSD are good for Econ go visit the campuses and see if you get a feel for them

for your friend: visit ucsd, if they dislike it, then i would say ucsb
for you: cal poly's engineering is top notch, and its cheaper. You should def consider it

does your friend want to be an accountant? ucsb's accounting program is very good with a high pass rate on cpa exam.

i say both of you go to ucsb. but you 2 really need to set foot on the campuses and decide for yourself.

your friend should go to ucsd and you should go to ucsb
