<p>So, since its admissions season I thought it might be cool to have a forum where we could share our first choice UC, maybe with some other general info?</p>
<p>1st choice: UCLA
Major: Anthropology (gravitating more towards cultural)</p>
<p>This isn't a chance me thread, or a thread that is based on likelihood of getting in somewhere; its just sharing (: </p>
<p>UCLA’s philosophy department is world-renowned and is actually better than Berkeley’s philosophy department(Philosophy is one of the few subjects where UCLA beats Berkeley, believe it or not) and UCLA is not too far from where I live. In fact, the CC I go to is roughly the same distance away from my house as UCLA is.</p>
<p>But Berkeley is an excellent school too and admittedly, it’s hard to pass up Berkeley if that school accepts you. I don’t know if I’ll be accepted to Berkeley, but if I am, I’l probably still choose UCLA over it.</p>
<p>Also, Berkeley has this stupid issue with philosophy pre-req classes at CCs; most CCs don’t offer the necessary pre-req classes for Berkeley’s philosophy major because Berkeley is needlessly picky about these things. UCLA, on the other hand, is just fine with the philosophy classes offered at community colleges.</p>
<p>1st Choice: UCSD!
Major: Biology (no idea what specialization yet, but hoping to figure that out)</p>
<p>Why? Well because I’m a local to SD so I wouldn’t have to deal with moving or anything like that. Plus, UCSD’s Biology department is famous for their research opportunities! It’d be a perfect shoe in to the field</p>
<p>Also, because I’m attempting to transfer from a CSU, my chances at UCLA and Cal are very slim. It may even be difficult for me to be accepted to UCSD, but at least my dream is somewhat realistic! Hoping for the best.</p>
<p>Torn between UCI and UCSD’s public health program. UC Berk is awesome too but I visited all of them and was most happy with UCI in terms of being comfortable and fitting in. Overall I just want to do well wherever I go and not be in TOO much competition ( it’s gonna be everywhere, i know) and get into grad school </p>
<p>I love Berkeley as well, but I would be a rhetoric major there, whereas I would be a psych major at UCLA, due to annyoing complications. So I would much rather study psych than rhetoric</p>
<p>1st Choice:Davis
2nd Choice:UCSD/Berkeley
Major: Political Science.</p>
<p>I am really wanting to get away from the fast paced lifestyle of living in Los Angeles, specifically a beach city, and I think Davis would be a great change of pace. I also like the fact it is near Sacramento which opens a lot of doors considering my major.</p>
<p>UCSD is probably my most realistic second option. If I get into their family housing it is much more affordable then Berkeley. Also if I second guess myself as far as wanting a change of scenery San Diego can provide something similar to what I have, but new at the same time. Berkeley is Berkeley so of course it is a dream, but the cost of living causes me to look elsewhere.</p>
<p>1st: UCB because they have a program that significantly helps premeds get research opportunities and get into some of the best medical schools in the nation.
2nd: UCLA/UCD Can’t decide, both have medical schools but UCLA is too far. I tagged at Davis and I’m nominated for their regents scholarship so it would be tough to say no to them if i end up winning the scholarship.
3rd: UCSD, I’ve been accepted already but I don’t know, I hear it’s very boring at UCSD… there’s not really a lot of school spirit like in UCLA or UCB where students work hard, but also have school spirit etc. </p>
I already live here and I have a lot of family in San Diego. So if I needed help, I know I can count on calling on a relative. I honestly haven’t visited UCSD in a while considering I was living in Northern California. From what I can remember, it gave off an air of serious academia and wasn’t too rowdy. I think I could be okay with that considering, the costs of living would be greatly reduced!
Also the longer I’m in San Diego, the more I am getting comfortable with the laid-back nature of the city as a whole. It’s a nice change from the Bay Area (which I would only go back to if I got into UC Berkeley).
UCLA would be an amazing opportunity. But I fear that it would be too expensive for me to transition and stay there over the course of my undergrad education.
UC Berkeley would be cool because I have a friends in the East bay area that I could probably count on helping me find a place and/or I can live with.
@luckie1367 it’s a combination of a few things. I want to stay in the bay area to be still kind of close to my family. My parents are getting old, and my husband’s whole family is rooted in the bay area too. Also, we need to live somewhere affordable. We live in a really cheap apartment in San Francisco right now, so if I got into UC Berkeley (which is my number one choice), then we can stay put and not have to think about it. I really love UCLA and it’s an amazing school, but Los Angeles is getting really expensive to live there. We could do family housing but it’s not guaranteed and we have pets. I currently don’t work and go to school full time and my husband makes an okay amount of money, so the affordability of living in the area of the school I get into is a priority in deciding where to apply to and end up attending. It sucks, if I was young and single I would just live in a dorm and not think twice about it, but I have a family to think of so that unfortunately contributes to trying to plan for my future. Also, I think I can get a TAG to Davis and I love the campus and their sociology department is good. So yeah, long story.
I have not decided yet.
History Major
Either a tie between Berkeley or UCLA. Both have their pro and cons, especially regarding my major since they are both highly ranked when it comes to it.
Alternative to both is Davis, which I will TAG with this Sept.
