UCSB would be an ideal choice for free. However, if you intend to major in Economics or a humanity or social science with the hope of one day going to Law School, I think UCB may be a better option.

I really dont see what UCB will give you that UCSB will not, especially in rergards to economics (they have a mighty fine faculty and plenty of national economic conferences). If you do well at either school, which very well may be easier to do at UCSB when graded on a curve, you will have similar opps.

I know that Berkeley has much more prestige and overall better academics. I'm not arguing on that point, but is it really worth paying 7000 a year more to go to this school, instead of taking the full scholarship to UCSB? At this point, they both seem to like good choices to me.

Just out of curiosity, what all does the scholarship entail? Just tuition, or all fees? Priority housing? Priority registration? Any "extras" would also be important to consider.

UCB and UCSB have very different campuses, locations, social scenes, climates, reputations, atmosphere...where would you be happier? Try to answer that question before even thinking about the scholarship. Also, what do your parents think?

The scholarship entails "a $6,000 yearly scholarship for up to four years or until you graduate and up to a maximum amount of $24,000."

Also:
"guaranteed housing in one of the university owned residence halls for your four years as a Regents Scholar, automatic acceptance into college honors programs, priority class registration, extended borrowing periods from UCSB's Davidson Library, and membership in the RCSA."

The $6,000 Regents Scholarship per year, plus the Pell and Cal Grants that I am going to receive pretty much cover everything, including housing, tuition, etc.

My EFC is 0, so my parents wont have to contribute to my education at this point. They just told me to wait it out and see what colleges I will be accepted at, and go from there. I'm just trying to prepare by educating myself about my choices now though.
