We recently toured Yale and my daughter and I both liked the idea of the residential colleges. We’ve read that Rice has them too. Are there other schools we should look at with residential colleges?
Check into Notre Dame.
Harvard comes to mind, as does Princeton, Wash U, and Northwestern (although I’m not sure to what extent). I believe Cornell has residential colleges open to upperclassmen. I’m assuming you’re not from CA, and someone looking at Yale probably wouldn’t be interested in these schools, but UC Santa Cruz, UC San Diego, and U Miami (in Florida) also have the residential system. Northeastern has a system of learning communities that is somewhat similar. There are a few others, but they aren’t as big as Yale or Rice’s systems.
Thanks. Casting a wide net and UC San Diego and Santa Cruz were on the list to visit. Notre Dame is a wonderful school but probably not for a Jewish New Yorker (though Gus Ornstein did go there to play football).
