Which would prepare me more?

I'm currently in Advanced Algebra 2 -- Its a combination of FAT and Alg2 in one year. I'm really struggling to keep my grade a B and the only reason I took this class was to take pre-calc senior year. My question is..if I'm doing poorly in this class how much harder will pre-calc be for me? Let me say this in another way: math is the bane of my existence. I'm also looking to go into medical school and Stats is one of the pre-reqs for almost any med school...

So this brings me to a new question: would I have an easier time in AP Stats than pre-calc? A ton of people at my school are saying AP Stats is the easiest AP offered at our school so I'm just wondering if it'd be better for me to do that senior year, then pre-calc my freshman year of college? Just curious! Any help appreciated!

Calc is a prereq for a lot of pre med classes so it would be best for you to take it freshman year of college. Stats won’t really help you in college (considering you don’t plan on taking anything related to stats) but precalc will really help you with calc. Or, you can take calc freshman year without precalc (as I did), which is really tough but doable. I wouldn’t recommend that though, definitely could have used some pre calc knowledge in that class…

Well what if I get an A in AP Stats but have a really high chance of getting a B or C in pre-calc? Can’t I just take pre-calc freshman year then calc in sophomore year? I just don’t want to risk getting a C at all…

I took Honors Algebra II my freshman year of high school and got a C as an overall grade. I took CP Pre-Calc my junior year and got an A. Yes, it was a lower level class but I was ranked first in the class AND I had the same teacher for both of these classes and she taught them similarly. I didn’t really have too much trouble with Pre-Calc but it could just be the program at my school. I have never taken stats though.

You’ve probably told yourself that math has a lot more to do with naturally ability and that if you don’t get it, you just don’t get it. This is not true at all! I’ve never been strong in math and was so scared that I would fail calculus. So I studied really hard all semester and ended up getting the second highest grade on the final. But remember, I have no natural math ability. I rarely understood what was happening in class and constantly had to ask my teacher for help. And that’s how I got my A- in calc.

What I’m trying to say here is that if you say you’ll get a C then you will get a C. But if you put forth a notable effort then your grade really will reflect that.

I also think taking a class just for the grade is pretty stupid if it won’t help you at all in college.

Lastly, I don’t know why you think you’ll do so much better in pre calc in college. I get the different teacher thing but math involves a lot of outside study and that won’t change, regardless of the teacher. I honestly think you’d be disadvantaging yourself by taking a useless stats class when you could be preparing yourself for a required college class. And if anything, take pre calc again in college, at least you’ll have seen the material before.

Check out Khan Academy, it’s an excellent math (and everything else) resource that helps me all the time.
