White Coat Ceremony--What Should Mom Wear?

Any experience? How dressy are these affairs?

About the same as you’d wear to college graduation.

The clothing styles range from frumpy to old school fancy at these type of things. Mom should wear something that is comfortable and that will breathe in a crowded auditorium.

Pencil skirt, coordinating cami, cotton cardigan OR dressier silk dress?

^my mom went with the former, and I went with the latter, to my white coat last year. We fit in just fine! (state school. Location: the nice auditorium on campus)

I think students will likely dress up a little more than their parents (they’re the ones on stage, having pictures taken, and the ceremony is made to feel like a big deal). For guests, I think most male attendees wore khaki pants, button down shirt with a tie, and a sportcoat. Most women wore either slacks and a nice top or a skirt with a nice top.
