White House Internship

Do you have finals to study for George?

presjam

hahahah yes I DO have finals to study for…you sound like my mom haha :)

gotta get down to it  all i really have is organic chemistry…and its rly rough :(

good luck, bonne chance to every final taker out there

its 8:43 my time, 9:42 where VP Possum is, and she is takinga Final at 10…so good luck to AwesomeOpossum! haha

prejam

oh, I prefer to be called Putin…its a bit more ballsy and bear-like (Russia get it?haha) lol jk

Anyday…you should e mail again, and you should call until you get a live person in the Internship Office. Keep calling until you reach someone…and e mail Rachel back…if u have her e mail.

PUTIN,

I was just asking because I would HATE to be you during this stressful time, with Orgo no less! At least, I can stress and follow this tread at the comfort of my desk at work, with no need to really concentrate on anything (kinda)!

So out of sheer desperation for an internship this summer (and lunacy brought out by this thread), I ended up emailing a bunch of media outlets and agencies in DC my resume last night that, for the most part, had no opportunities listed on their website.

I woke up this morning to an internship proposal from the Center for Inquiry in DC! Its contingent upon an interview but the woman I emailed said she would love to have me there this summer! So I guess us crazies get a break sometimes haha. And if I don’t get the White House Internship I’ll be right on Pennsylvania Av., a few blocks and a short visit away from the lucky few who do get it :)

Dude if I got that email about an interview I would call until someone listens to me. DEE22 I’m not sure if we met before but I live in DC so don’t know. I am going nuts, this is crazy. Why doesn’t the administration use the extra intern candidates to jumpstart his re-election campaign??? Or work closely with Organize for America. I know they hate to waste free labor.lol. Hell, they could use the extras to mobilize OFA in DC, let us attend the White House Class Sessions, etc. DC could use the help. It’s a shame a place that is surrounded by people who supposedly posses the power to fix the Nations problems; is surrounded by people desperately needing help, and one of the most crime infested cities in the country. Ahhhh Good Ole’ America.

IM THE WHITE HOUSE INTERN FREAK OUT PRESS SECRETARY, AND THIS IS THE FIRST POST I’VE HAD THAT DIDN’T INCLUDE A TIRADE INDUCED BY MY NERVOUSNESS, AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE.

Nice Kt! Good luck!

I think finding this random blog has been a good outlet for nervous energy for a lot of people and one thing I will say to a lot of you judging by how many of you are still taking finals is that, even if you don’t get the internship, you still have time to apply again if you choose to do so. I’ve already graduated college but in reading some of your posts it seems like there are a lot of underclassmen so you guys shouldn’t be too upset if you don’t get it this round because you’re all still young! until friday…

presjam03- Thank you!!

scanman1722- I agree with you there. I’m only going to be a sophomore next year so even though I feel like I gave it a good shot, there’s always next year. If I don’t get it hopefully it’s going to the upperclassmen/graduated folks that won’t get another chance like this again…I’ll try again next summer!

The old people that won’t get another chance…that would be me! Thanks! :)

You guys should show parts of this thread to the White House. After reading this and observing your commitment and obsession with public service, they would be fools not to offer you all internships…this is dedication!

By the way, has anyone on this thread received interviews and had their references checked? Or just had their references checked? My son knows three other people at his college that have applied and one from a school back East, and none of them had their references checked. (Although one had an interview, but the rest didn’t).

KFCOMEDY, I had an interview but my references haven’t been checked, which is beginning to worry me.

Maybe they didn’t check your references because your interview was so awesome!!! REMAIN POSITIVE PEOPLE!!!

IM THE WHITE HOUSE INTERN PROSPECT FREAKOUT PRESS SECRETARY AND I AM A HOPELESSLY HOPEFUL…AND I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE.

Has this thread heard back from, I think it was Pebbles: wasn’t he or she the only one that had an interview and references checked?

From my call yesterday, it seemed like they were going to check references.
However, we can’t find anyone who had the references checked.

Maybe each department does handle it differently. For those of you who didn’t get an interview, don’t despair. In the past, internships have been awarded without interviews.

My son and I know an intern who was offered a position during the Bush Administration…and did not have an interview. And we know one other former intern who did have an interview. I feel that only certain depts. interview.

We can’t find anyone, previous interns or applicants, that had their references checked.
So let’s hear from anyone who had their references checked.

I wish that were the case…it didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. They have to understand our nerves…right?!

My son told me that his interview was so short, it was almost rude. And that the man interviewing him didn’t really ask him any substantial questions…just conversational stuff…not really about the job.

So my son is convinced that the short interview plus lack of references being called…means he didn’t get it.

I think the WH is somewhat overwhelmed and not as organized as you all think…I don’t think they have time to check all the references. Look, if you don’t get it, apply again…eventually, if you stick to it, you will eventually get a White House Internship.

Now, everyone: study for your finals and finish your papers…

How many here haven’t had an interview or had their references check? My hope is beginning to dim…Of course I know in the end there are those who will be accepted without having done interviews/having had references checked. Any new emails???
AHHH I wish I at least had an interview so there I felt like there was something I could be doing…it’s hell just sitting and waiting here haha.

And Presjam—Ironically, just as Obama decided to release CIA torture records and make it clear “this administration will not torture”…can’t they see we’re being tortured??? haha

By the way, I am appointing myself Resident White House Internship Mom.

I second that!
