Is anyone applying for this fall’s internship? Hopefully, I will.

The deadline is only weeks away!

Also, did anyone apply for the Office of Correspondence? It should be a great opportunity regardless (maybe an shoe-in for an actual internship with WH?)…I don’t see what the difference is besides the title.

well for anyone still reading this thread- though i was not selected for the full summer internship with the scheduling dept OR the volunteer position with the correspondence office, my unlucky streak finally came to an end when they offered me a partial summer internship (it only goes through July 1st.)

But the ironic thing is that I’ll be working with the internship team reviewing applications for the fall internship lol! funny how things work out… :P

good luck to everyone who is still trying to get selected for any type of position, don’t give up hope!

I guess what goes around comes around. I am applying for the fall internship- I hear it is less competitive than the summer. My first choice is the communications office. Any one have any advice from applying the first time around? Just curious, what exactly do you do in a partial summer internship?

i have no clue to be honest. probably not the work of champions i would guess, but hopefully it will give me some insight on what they are looking for in applications so the process becomes slightly less mystified. :P

You are an insider now! It seems that from the outside, our applications go into a cybervacuum and magically appear with a response a month later. Let us know what insight you gain into how this mysterious process works. Good luck!

I don’t know if this is a stupid question or not but i’ve been having trouble figuring out to send my application. I typed up my essays in word and glanced over the application already but i have no idea how to send it in because i can’t save my information directly onto the application according to adobe. Is anyone else having this problem? Or am i doing something seriously wrong? Could anyone help me with this? Thanks.

Akshar: I’m surprised they put up the application in Adobe, last cycle they did that and realized it was ■■■■■■■■ because YOU COULDNT SAVE IT. So they changed it to word. Check back at the website to see if they uploaded a new version of the application and if they havent email the WHIntern email and tell them about the Adobe Problem. Suggest that they send you a Word Version of the document (I did that and I bet a bunch of other people did for the summer app so they ended up just changing it on the website).

Thanks awesomepossum, i re downloaded the application and it works perfectly now. Did anyone put there name on their resume? Or did you just leave your personal information at the top off? Is formating that big of a deal?

We don’t need a cover letter. That is the purpose of the first page of the application; basic information. I would leave your name and other personal information off the resume, as that is the point of the unique identifier number. I think they just want the meat of your resume. Hope this helps!

Hi I am sending in my final application for the Fall Internship today (the due date) do you think my application will still be reviewed? Also, I am having trouble with the PDF file. I open in in Preview (on a mac) and when I try to email it to myself or a friend to review, the fields are blank. I am nervous to send my application to the White House for fear of it being blank. Does anyone know how to ensure the information will transfer through email? Also, when I type in a box like “Life Goal”- I run over the space it allows. You can see still it if you scroll right. Will they be able to read it? I would really really REALLY appreciate if someone could help me out with these questions. It would mean the world! Thanks so much

I had the same issue. I think it was because my MAC had Adobe Reader, but not Adobe Acrobat and it failed to save the application, even though it appeared to do so. I ended up just having to use another computer at the library with Adobe Acrobat installed on it and it worked just fine.

Anyone know why they extended the Fall 2009 application deadline, at the last minute? It’s not like they didn’t get enough people applying… Weird!

I applied for the fall too and I second what LawGrad2009 said about waiting for a month to find out. My top 3 offices were Communications, Domestic Policy Council and Chief of Staff. I might end up regretting the 3rd one. But I hear Rahm is quite the character. From what others said on this thread, I think some offices email you if they want to interview you. I’m guessing you just graduated from law school? congrats if so!
