White Valedictorian at an HBCU

[White valedictorian: A first for historically black Morehouse - CNN.com](White valedictorian: A first for historically black Morehouse - CNN.com)

1) Turned down Columbia University - full scholarship
2) Finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship
3) Now works at Goldman $achs

Just goes to show that you can be successful ANYWHERE you go.

The two factors don't correlate? Are you insinuating that because he was a URM at the school he was the valedict of, that forced him to overcome obstacles to achieve success?

why would u turn down a full scholarship to columbia to go there

Not everyone is a CC prestige hound maybe?

perhaps he just wants attention.

thats pretty sick.

lol Bourne, I think you missed the point. He GAVE UP Columbia for Morehouse College, and he's WHITE. How many white people do that?

I just assumed there was something attractive about Morehouse? I don't know.

You're right though. Is a bit weird.

His charm, movie-star good looks and chiseled physique made him popular among students.

LOL! Now this is why it's on CNN.
I think I will turn stupid if I keep watching/reading CNN "news".

I find this all very, very strange. No racism at all intended, but I would never, ever want to go to any school with such low racial diversity, black or white or otherwise. And instead of COLUMBIA? But good for him.

what is the point of that story at all. Prestige or not, he is very odd for turning down Columbia Full scholarship (a school he obviously applied to and wanted to attend).

whatever, pointless story.

Its definitely NOT a pointless story. Its a story about a white man going against the odds to attend a HBCU. Morehouse is a school rich in African-American history and culture. He has accomplished something that no other Caucasian has.

I guess people find it weird when a White person attends an HBCU but isn't it weird when a Black person attends an ivy league? Ivy leagues are not very racially diverse.

Maybe the guy just feels more comfortable around black people or is interested in African American studies?

It would be interesting to read a book he might write about his experiences there.

*haha just read the article, both are true. I'm glad he had such a great experience, i'm very proud of him.
