Whitman astronomy?

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knew how strong whitman's astronomy and physics departments are, as well as how they rate compared to other liberal arts schools

ANyone??? Bbbb

You probably want to hear from a physics/astronomy student, but I doubt very many of them lurk here. Whitman is known for its sciences - D’s Astronomy class last semester was her favorite class, helped in part by the fantastic telescope on campus. They have 2 new state of the art microscopes received through $800,000 worth of grants to the science dept., an alum/astronaut going up in the next space shuttle. Hope others weigh in here for you.

The astronomy program is unusually strong for a school of its size and has 2 excellent telescopes I believe. My son took astronomy as a first-year to get science requirement “out of the way” and got hooked instead so is an astronomy minor. Because the department is small (relative to a university) students can arrange independent studies for special topics of interest. You definitely need to contact the department or admissions and ask to connect to a current student so you can get the insider view.

Defiantly a small, but strong department. There is only one senior astro major this year.

I have a couple friends who are in astronomy classes and they really like them a lot. I’m not sure about the physics program though,

i heard that whitman has an awesome planetarium
