Also, I think the acceptance email is somewhat personalized? Mine mentioned the main point of my essay in the first paragraph of the letter, so I’m curious if this is a coincidence or if everyone sees this too.
@sofierrx those are great stats and you did both SAT and subject test (even higher than some on the thread. I got wait-listed too as an international student demanding a lot of aid but I applied test optional. So the 17k-20k I have seen offered on this thread wouldn’t help me at all, so i guess which such a high aid it was best to wait-list such students.
D got in: 4.3 GPA, 6 APs, 32 ACT. Track and soccer. EnvSci major. Acceptance letter was also personalized in first paragraph, mentioning her ability to balance varsity sports and high academics.
Best of luck to everyone as you sort through all of this this month and next!
DS was accepted! GPA 3.33 (3.47W), Sat 1410, compelling personal story, probably great recs.
He is very excited; still waiting on a bunch of other decisions but Whitman probably his top choice right now.
His interest started with a unsolicited personal phone call one fall evening from the AO, followed by a targeted mailing, a great “meet and greet” at the high school, and now an unexpected acceptance with 10K merit scholarship. Now THAT is the way to recruit students.
Also, does anyone know if we have to major in the academic program that we selected on the common app, or if we got accepted to the school as a whole and don’t have to honor what academic program we said we were most interested in?
I haven’t heard of any of the LACs where you are entering a specific major. There may be some, but with the LACs, most want you to get a broad selection of classes before making that choice.
D was accepted but no merit and minimal need-based aid. Very disappointing, but she has several great options and still waiting on a few more. Thanks for everyone’s help on this thread and good luck to you.
D was accepted with $40,000 merit award, completely overwhelmed to see that and thrilled. The next day was also offered same merit award and acceptance at St. Olaf. We don’t qualify for FA. Congrats to everyone who got in. Everyone who is waiting or did not get in - hang in there, you WILL find the perfect college that you will love!
@monkeyg56 Thanks so much - we were blown away. No music or theatre, just merit. She’s an amazing writer, so it could be the supplemental essay or reg essay and her SAT and ACT were quite high. That’s the only thing I can think of. Perhaps because we can’t get FA, they helped us out a bit more with merit. Regardless, we’re super thankful.
@monkeyg56 Just to clarify, it’s TOTAL for all 4 years if that makes a difference. $10,000 a year. Maybe other’s were awarded $17000 per year? Then maybe not so amazing? This is our first experience, so I don’t know LOL!
