All have their perks, I got accepted to 8 but it is down to these.

Whitman: Beautiful campus, happy students that i get along with, great education

Colgate: Kinda prestigious, stunning campus, great education, great post grad opportunities and alumni relations.

Bates: Great education and I could be on their crew team.

Colo College: Love the block plan, love the campus, but a little too close to home (Im from denver)

Grinnell: They have tons of money and probably have the best overall education of the bunch. Plus they have the funding to do pretty much whatever I want.

I see Whitman and Grinnell in one category and the others in another, with the difference being the “preppy” element is stronger in the Colorado/Colgate group vs the “non-conformist/laid back” (and rural) at Whitman and Grinnell. If you’re equally comfortable with/intereted in both those cultural factors, then I’d look at specific faculty and departments of interest and see who calls to you most. You’re got a great range of options; now you have to find the place with the community feel you most hope for.

Between Whitman and Grinnell, I’d say the difference I noticed was the relationship with the town/city seemed more positive and engaged at Whitman–and the winters are shorter and milder and there is skiing if you want that.
