Whitman College Skiing

I've checked Whitman College's academics and people's overall opinion or experience, (even did a college visit) which looks excellent. Now I'm curious about the skiing. I was able to talk to one skier there about this, but I would appreciate some more opinions.
I know it's in Walla Walla, but how good are the skiing opportunities?
Is Bluewood the main ski area of choice?
How often are there trips to better mountains like Crystal (not necessarily through the ski club)?
Is there decent backcountry skiing?
How good is the ski club?
Are there lots of skiers/boarders who attend and go ride?
Is skiing possible during the week? (night skiing or backcountry)
How expensive is it?

I know academics come first.

Bluewood is the closest about an hour from WW. The other resorts are about 4-5 hours away. Mt. Hood closest, north of Spokane, Cascades. White Pass.
Bluewood’s not a bad little hill, but small. Usually has good snow and long season.

I’m interested in getting some info on the snowboarding here too any more opinions?

The best bet and I like it the best is Schwitzer. Coeur D 'Arlene is about 3.5 hour away.

I asked the same questions when my S was looking at Whitman. From what I understand the college sends a bus to Bluewood on weekends when the runs are open. Because it’s an hour away, most of the skiiing / boarding done by students takes place there. If you have a car going further away on a weekend is doable.

I think the ski team practices at Bluewood.

Thanks good to hear there is a bus…and that there are hills within an hour

My D took snowboarding as her PE class one year. It took up an entire Thursday afternoon, so might have limited some other class options, but Wow, how fun is that? … transportation was included in the fee (can’t remember what it was but she paid it from summer job earnings) She was an OK snowboarder but signed up for Beginner level because you could only take each level once, and if she had wanted to take it multiple years that maximized the number of years available. The next year she had met enough boarders that she didn’t take the class but caught rides with friends.

snowboarding as a class? thats awesome! that pretty much answers my question in itself
