@zaaaaaanib did you get in?
@tscca123 Ahhhh, man–that’s terrible about the nylon bag! My son was also waitlisted at Whitman but he didn’t get any special items or treatment. I agree, that is a little misleading. I don’t know how they organize the waitlist, but maybe the bag meant they were really interested in your D and wanted to keep her on the line. If they organize the waitlist in tiers, it may be possible she could get the call? This was my S’s last college to hear from and he too has already been accepted elsewhere. He knew this one was a reach, and it was too far off the beaten path to visit so he wasn’t as attached to it. That said, we are well aware of the school’s prestige and he loved the location and outdoorsy nature of it. He will probably remove himself from the waitlist since he already has two schools he likes a lot that he’s struggling to decide between. Maybe she should stay on? Then again, it’s so emotionally grueling–esp. if she’s already feeling burned. Sorry about that. Congrats to everyone who got in!
Waitlisted.
I have been waitlisted literally everywhere.
Waitlisted at Bowdoin, Colby, Carleton, Kenyon and now here.
Could someone tell me why this is happening with me? :3
PS. I am an international applicant asking a large amount of aid.
@Basblue I think it is misleading. She has been carrying that bag just about everywhere. My daughter has basically been advertising their school. I want kids to know that if they apply, then get gifts from Whitman College, they should not get their hopes up.
And no, in our minds being waitlisted is the same as a rejection. She has great schools to choose from.
@tscca123 I heard about that nylon bag in a thread last year. Some kids received one and got in but others received one and did not. That is really tough! I wish they wouldn’t do that. Curious to know why they do that. In the end I’m encouraged to hear that your daughter has other great options. Congratulations to her on her other acceptances!
DS was accepted with a $15k annual merit scholarship!

He received the blue nylon bag too and I remember asking him why and he said that it was because he turned in his regular application by a certain date. I mentioned at the time that it would be unfortunate to start using the bag if it turns out later that Whitman did not accept him. I agree with the others that the bag is very misleading.
@Fangosa1 thanks for the blue bag insight. If my D18 applies next year she’ll probably get her app in early as well. Glad to clear up that mystery in case she receives one! Congrats to your son- is Whitman high on his list of choices?
@Fangosa1 Hmmm…The college basically waives your application fee if you apply by a certain date. The bag was never part of that deal. Just want to clarify as a fact. Just trying to help future applicants as well.
@Ir4550 My daughter applied in mid November. She applied EA to most colleges. Whitman doesn’t offer EA. So she applied early for RD. If Whitman is your daughters 1st Choice, she might want to apply ED instead.
I found the insert that came with the blue nylon bag…
"They say the early bird gets the worm. But it’s hard to get the Whitman logo on a worm, so we went with plan B.
We hope you enjoy this token of thanks for applying to Whitman more than a month before the application deadline. Having your application in so early is really helpful for us as we work to review a record number of applications t his year! You can look forward to hearing back from us with your admission decision in late March.
While you wait, you can carry us with you when you’re adventuring outdoors, heading to a coffee shop to do homework, meeting with your friends to study, going to the gym, or doing whatever else your busy schedule has in store for you.
Sincerely,
Your friendly Admission Staff at Whitman College"
@tscca123 she’ll definitely consider it. Whitman is among her few top choices so far (after 15+ school visits) and she’s hoping fall revisits will bring further clarity. Do you mind sharing where else your daughter applied and/or what schools are high on her list to attend so far?
Do accepted international students receive any mail from the school?
!
Waitlisted and was a little disappointed at the time.

Are there any waitlist students here? Please reply if they’ve contacted you.
