International, Rejected
I got in with 12k/year. I have 31 ACT and 4.0 GPA (no weighted GPA).
32 ACT, 4.22 weighted GPA, full IB student, waitlisted. It seems their acceptance rate was less than 11% this year.
Rejected. Oddly enough I’m extremely relieved more than anything else because now I’ve finally heard back from all the schools I applied to.
adamfromiowa Congrats on your acceptance and financial aid. Where online did you find your financial aid listed? Was this a merit based scholarship? Thanks!
D accepted with 28 ACT and 3.7 UW (full IB). Didn’t expect it given the test scores! Three schools to go!
@mylast1 After I clicked on my 2016 Fall Application, it showed that there was an update. I clicked on the update, and I could click on three different documents. One of them was my letter of acceptance, one was informing me of receiving a merit scholarship, and one was my financial aid packet. I applied for need based FA, but I did not get any. After the 12k scholarship, Whitman is still 50k/year which is out of my price range.
Also, I already expected to get accepted with merit scholarships because I got a likely letter that said I would also get merit award if I kept up my grades. They even offered me a free trip to visit Whitman. I’m leaving in 10 days!
Accepted!!! With the best FA of all my schools, thank goodness. Nice surprise after a string of rejections.
@blackwatercity. How are you estimating the acceptance rate?
My D was accepted. 2040 SAT. 4.0/4.2 GPA. One year as an exchange student in Spain
Thanks for the info @adamfromiowa. My daughter was accepted, but we were hoping to get a little bit of merit aid. No such luck, though.
International, waitlisted.
I don’t think my scores are a problem considering the median I’ve been seeing among the applicants, but to be quite honest my supplemental essay seems to lack cohesion.
And the financial aid. Yes, probably the biggest reason as to why I was waitlisted, OTL.
I want to add one more comment. My D applied regular decision, but early (before 12/1). In February Whitman sent her a nylon bag that says Whitman college on it. The letter said… Thanks for applying early, we have not forgotten about you, take this bag with you to the gym, etc. anyway, I was going to be very mad if she didn’t get in because of the encouragement for her to carry this Whitman bag around. I learned from the Reed discussions that the handwritten postcard that they sent out is not a hint of acceptance even though it seems that way. So I assumed it was the same for this bag. However, since she got in, there is no telling if the bag meant anything or not. I would just caution people in future years, as hard as it is, to not to read too much into the bag. Generally I have learned through CC that some schools do things to keep the applicants interested, even if they have not yet decided if they are going to accept the student.
Accepted w/o merit…so it is out of question…good for waitlisted!
Is there an Accepted Student Facebook page? Thanks!
S accepted with 13k merit and 16.5k need- based aid… very excited. He also got the little bag but I figured that was sent to everyone. His stats: 3.8/4.2 GPA, 2240 SAT, 32 ACT. Also, wondering about admission rate quoted above. That seems really low. He visited and liked the school but worried that Walla Walla is just to remote and small. Three more schools to go and three more schools to visit. Almost done!
accepted international student
D accepted, 13k. No likely letter though, no offer to fly her out to visit. I will call admissions and ask about flying her out.
PNWedwonk, yes, Whitman College Class 2020. Congratulations!
