Accepted, meager FA packet though. Oh well… hope it’s worth the debt I’ll be in afterward! :o)

So excited when I got accepted (I’m from WA so its fun to get into Whitman)!

Anybody know if the initial scholarship/merit aid is all we get? Hoping for some financial aid to offset the cost :)

Besides Whitman, my son accepted at Princeton, Penn and Duke. He would prefer to go to Whitman- loved the school environment and atmosphere. Strangely, of the above schools Whitman is offering him the worst FA package (highest family contribution). Except for Lewis & Clark, where he was offered full-tuition scholarship, the best package was Princeton’s. He’s sent an email to Whitman FA office advising them of this, copied the Princeton FA sheet, and asked if they might re-consider a better scholarship offer at Whitman. Can’t hurt. It that doesn’t work, he’ll probably settle for Princeton.

Well, wrenfisher, I think the reason for that is probably the size of Whitman’s endowment compared to Princeton’s. Your son is obviously a very sought after student and would be an asset on Whitman’s campus, I hope they see that and are responsive to your request. Congratulations on having so many fine choices!

“If that doesn’t work, he’ll probably settle for Princeton.”

Not bad, as far as consolation prizes go. :)

^yeah I was gunna say…

Congrats on your son’s full tuition to L&C, too. I’m a Neely scholar as well and will probably be attending in there the fall :)

Aside from L&C, Whitman gave me the lowest family contribution but it included more loans than some that calculated a slightly higher family contribution with no/very few loans. But from what I’ve heard, whitman FA is very hit and miss…

Thank you bopambo. I hope they have the flexibility to come up with more scholarship (if they decide they want to). Not sure how that works. Difference in our out-of-pocket cost between Princeton offer and Whitman offer is significant.

“Hit and miss” is right. Last year, Whitman gave my son the best FA offer out of eight schools, including Brown… I was never sure, though, how much of Whitman’s offer was need-based, and how much was merit.

Congratulations on your Neely scholarship, Kenzie. For my son it is coming down to L&C (because of the scholarship with research opportunities, and he thinks Portland would be really cool) and Princeton, with Whitman in the mix if they somehow come up with more $$.

kenzie1992, congratulations on your great award from L&C! On another thread in the Whitman forum people are asking about the differences and similarities between L&C, Willamette, Whitman, Puget Sound, and UW. You probably have some insight, at least about L&C. Would you share it?
