Whitman's rankings

I've recently been admitted to Whitman and I am just wondering about its national rankings and what people's general perceptions of this school are.

I think USNWR ranks it around 36th for national LAC's. I gave it alot of consideration as a final choice school. I'm from the midwest and went to visit it in the fall. I like dthe school alot, especially the campus. My turn off was Walla Walla becasue I found it too remote and small and thought I would get bored in the area after a year or two...however, that had nothing to do with the school. If it had been closer to a larger urban area it would have been at the top of my list. I think it's a fantastic environment for the right person. I loved the professors I met and thought it had a great Outdoor Recreation Club headed by a guy who climbed the highest peak on all 7 continents. My concern had nothing to do with the rankings and you could get a good education there. If you are concerned about reputation, the only thing I would caution is that the school is not really well known of outside the pacific NW. But you should go there if you like it and could be happy there, not becasue of its ranking or how well known it is. I don't know what other schools you are considering but your ultimate choice should be decided my the fell you have when you are on a campus, not what other people think about it or what the ranking is. Good luck.

Here are some links for more information. Whitman has excellent standing among professionals of all kinds in the Pacific Northwest and growing national recognition. The culture is very collaborative and so I do not think they put a lot of energy or time into positioning for things like USNWR and have been content to just quietly succeed. They are interested in drawing more diversity and international students and they are very highly ranked for student satisfaction and how well the school is run.
