<p>If your parents attended college regardless where it was, you are not considered first generation.
If you have a high GPA and SAT or ACT, then it may help considering you have only been here for short amount of time. On the other hand, it may hurt if you don't do well and some colleges may require you to take TOEFL(several hours long and $150 each).</p>
