Who are you voting for:Obama or McCain

umm... please tell me you aren't saying the US should not be trying to find and kill Osama. Please tell me that's not what you meant and I misunderstood.
They should if they stick by the ideals that every criminal deserves justice no matter what. Our government is spending so much money just to find one man, he must be laughing at us. IF we ever catch and kill him that will only prove his point to his followers that think Allah will reward them for killing innocent civilians. They are not a chicken--if we cut their head off they'll just grow another one. We can never kill their real leader, their ideals. We just fail to realize that not every organization is run the same way as us with a "head" leading the way.

Please don't tell me that you think the US is hunting for Osama in Iraq.
No, we aren't hunting Osama there. But regardless of whether we should or should not be in Iraq... we are there now, and we are there until it is stable. It is becoming more stable. When it is stable, we can leave.

Aww that's cute. Better tell our service-men and women over there that they have no reason to worry anymore, forget about the possibility of dying this week and those dead bodies we sent home last week that it's all good, it's winding down.
Winding down = turning more and more control over to the Iraqis as each month goes by, not that no one else will die.
Whoa... that's amazing. The other candidate supported the exact same bill. Oh, and he actually suspended his campaign to try to get it passed the first time around. Maybe McCain supporting it = all good, Obama = tax and spend liberal, omg! Brilliant argument.
Unfortunately, they both voted for it. If Obama voted 'no', he would've got my vote.
just because Iraq is not on the front page of the paper does not mean that people are not dying and we are not spending billions of dollars a month to be over there. How can you tell things are winding down? Do you live over day and know that car bombings are stopping? McCain has made many references that he will take as long as need be to get out of Iraq.
I read a lot more about Iraq than 99% of the US population. When we turned Anbar province over to the Iraqis, it barely made the front page news. When is the last time you read about things happening in Iraq that was written by a normal Iraqi person? Probably never. Obviously things are still going on, and we will still spend lots of money. But we will slowly start to spend less, and a lot of the troops will be home in the next 4 years. Not all, but a lot.

Obama promised 16 months... and I promise you the troops will NOT be home in 16 months. Guaranteed.
I don't care about Iraq!
cool, do you care about Sudan? Or Zimbabwe? Or even know what is going on there without researching first?

Soccerguy: Why are there child labor laws? Why are people required to receive overtime pay for working over 40 hours? Why does OSHA and safety laws exist? Why are workers not required to work on federal holidays? Why are their sexual harassment laws? This seems like a lot of 'add-ons' the federal government is forcing employers to implement - yep they are big bullies trying to protect your rights, aren't they?
Every new law that costs employers money sends more jobs overseas. It's a fact. Not that all laws are bad, but just something to think about. I am against child labor in the US, as you probably are. However, you probably also own some things that were made with child labor. Is child labor ok, as long as it's happening in another country?

Soccerguy, I think the next time you get sick and miss a class, you should be expelled from university. I mean, c'mon, it's the not the school's f-ing problem.
what? If you pay for the opportunity to go to class, then you have the opportunity to go. It does not mean you have to go. I don't know where you are going with this, except I agree that it's not the school's problem if you choose not to go to class.

But in summary: Obama won, and your complaints are simply that and will fall on deaf ears. have a nice day
my complaints will fall on deaf ears for now... but wait a few years, and see what happens. Hopefully the stock market today is not a predictor of things to come for the next 4-8 years.

Hopefully nothing will happen with Russia's move to put missiles on the Polish boarder.

Asian countries are already concerned about Obama's protectionism.

And the Isreali - Palestinian issue is flaring up again.

They will not stop until the US converts to Islam. Are you arguing that the US should convert to Islam? They might calm down for a while if we let Israel get taken over, but then it will be back to us. Do you support the non-existence of Israel?

Obama is the new President. I will give him a chance to earn my vote in 2012. My expectations are just not very high. At least he can focus on the job at hand, instead of running for the next highest office, like he did in his last two jobs.

Was that seriously a rhetorical question? You miss my point... we can't stop them offensively, all we can do is build up the defense. Sure, send in troops if a country is under attack, but not just to continue the hunt for one man whose death by our hands would only worsen the situation.

My friends were such sore losers in the election, I ended up taking most of their blame for Obama winning (I was personally responsible ; ) )
I read the first page, on which someone suggested most obama supporters voted for his chic image. I did not do this at all, but rather voted for obama for reasons most conservatives would hate me for:

-I trust the government more than corporations, thus I like bigger government.
-I would really like to see taxes for the top wealth go up substantially.
-We need a president who isn't hotheaded, and a vice president who isn't a "blonde".

In short, I really do support moderate socialism, to the degree where everyone is responsible for each other and social class isn't polarized. Really, have Americans forgotten that it is our duty to help our country first, not the other way around? Of course I don't really see myself, nor care about coming into much money in the future. And nobody said that rich people don't work as hard, but no one really needs "status" items.

Um... didn't you just say that you like bigger government (i.e. government taking care of us)???

So you think that someone should provide services to society (heath care, education, etc.), but you don't want to work hard and make money to pay for those services. Instead you want the government to take money from people who have worked hard to pay for those services. Here is an idea: if you want more money for college students then work hard, make a lot of money, and give scholarships to students you feel are worthy. You are asking for communism, where no matter how hard someone works everyone has the same status.

You seem to think that the government can function better than the free market. Just wait and see in three years when Obama's even bigger government only creates more problems.

Socialism =/= Communism.

I don't see why Americans are so against the idea of a bigger government, universal healthcare, and unemployment benefits. I'm from Canada and the system works great for us. I haven't heard many complaints. It's not as if all of your money is going towards social services, you are still able to retain a majority of it. Why not help those who are less fortunate?

Anyone who thinks that we can make Iraq "stable" is naive as ****, and you need to let go of your "world in harmony" ideals. These people have lived by a certain, hateful lifestyle for more years then you can count, and that isn't simply going to change by a force, that they hate as well. Even if we get it to a "bearable" level of peace, as soon as we withdraw, it's going to fall again. It's a waste of time and although I'm so sick of talking about the Iraq issue, it's not a winnable war.

No, I don't care about Sudan and Zimbabwe, who's killing who there for money, or who the new "weekly" leader/ president/ warlord is. My roommate is big on international affairs and talks my ear off about many African and Middle Eastern countries, but no, I don't give a ****, I don't have to, and I especially don't to spend a trillion dollars to fix these countries' problems. We shouldn't and are hardly connected with the causes of the problems there. Our own country is our top priority.

The point of my "sick day" comparison is that a person sometimes has little control over when and how they get sick. Maybe a more palatable analogy: prof gives you an 'F' because you had the flu and didn't show up to class.

Haha.. you're telling me child labor laws hurt the economy, and then you accuse me of condoning child sweatshops? Was that a joke?

No, I don't condone it anywhere - at the same time, I can't do much to affect legislation or law enforcement in Taiwan.

And the point about giving life imprisonment, rather than the death sentence, to Osama bin Laden, is that killing him will turn him into a martyr and influential figure for years to come, whereas a very forgettable, shameful stay in solitary confinement will fade his legacy to dust. Please pay attention to the arguments you are countering.
