So Harvard like to say things that they're looking for interesting people, those with something different about them, passionate about something in particular and not just the perfect 2400 scores with a million ECs.

So has anyone here actually gotten in as a less than perfect student?

Well, I did have a 4.0 uw, but my SATs were only 2180 super-scored, and my ec’s were good but it’s not like I won national competitions or cured AIDS.
Does that help any?

I doubt that the majority of the freshman class has a 2400 or even a 2350. I personally has a 2110 and a 3.87. Read the admitted forum to see for yourself.

My son had B’s in English for 3 years, and 2350 SAT. SAT2s were perfect and so were APs. Class rank was 8 out of ca. 650. Harvard turns down plenty with perfect stats in favor of others with less perfect scores.

Harvard absolutely cannot admit a class with a majority of students who scored 2400 on the SAT, because such scores are too rare. New SAT score frequency reports are released at the end of August each year. Students who score 2400 on the SAT number only in the hundreds each year. See

I would suggest, OP, that you read the thread where everyone says if they did/didn’t get in and posted their stats. A lot of folks with not-so-perfect stats got in, while a few people who had better scores were rejected. SATs are not the end-all-be-all!

SATs aren’t the be all and end all, and I just realized I added 100 pts to Mathson’s total, he “only” had a 2250 in addition to all those B’s in English. :)

I have a feeling that a bunch of guys/gals got in with decent SAT scores and decent GPA - by that I mean 2100+ and 3.7+. There may be a bunch who made it with less scores etc but they may have other extenuating circumstances - URM, folks from states from where people dont generally come, hooks, fantastic essays, fantastic recos. etc.

^^^^yeah you pretty much hit the nail on the head. MOST students (75%) have at LEAST a 2000. but some, the other 25% have some kind of major hook. B/c URM’s make up like 20%, this means that there ARE some who do have an above average SAT score
