Who has been admitted to Reach UCs

Anyone ever been admitted to a UC with low grades or stats when they expected a sure rejection?

Well.... I know a girl who got accepted at UCLA, UCSD, UCR last year with a 3.2 GPA (she failed at least 3 math classes and retook them) and a 1400 SAT.

80 people and no replies!

I know somebody who had a 3.8 GPA weighted with high 1300s SAT score that got admitted to Berkeley.

^cool, that sounds really similar to my stats.

Me.

how come? are they those type of people that are insanely good at 1 or 2 things? such as an engineering genius shooting for berkeley with low stats or something?

no, its called ucs like to admit regional, in-state applicants, and someone with perciveably lower stats in state than someone out of state will get priority.

lol I think the reason there are so many views on this is because people think the UCs have released decisions or something.

uh, a LOT of ppl i know.

We are talking last year guys... not this year yet :-)

you might want to look at the admissions statistics on their site then. itd give you a better idea than what you'd get here.

I like to hear real people, not statistics, talk about it. Today, I found out that a girl with average SATs and a 3.1 and one AP class got accepted at UCI with very few ECs.

I know a person who got into UCD with 3.4ish GPA, 1200 SAT, 1AP, no EC....

I'm in at UCI with a 1100 SAT.

First of all, you're supposed to get into UCD with a 1200, 1AP, no EC...

First of second of all, I'd be surprised if you didn't get into UCI with a 1100 SAT.

Last of all, I'm assuming you are both CA residents.

My friend got into UCI already but she has high stats so I guess she doesn't relate.

But last year, I knew this one guy, GPA of like 3.0, SAT not sure but I know it wasn't spectacular, and he got into UCLA. then he got a D senior year and got his admission rescinded.

I have a question though...is it true that if you get a Regent's Scholarship application, it's like saying you've been accepted but they're not telling you?

I got into UCSD with a 1130 on my sat's last year. had like a 3.9 or 3.8.

Like I said, a lot of people who apply to the UC's have scores in the 1100's, because a lot of people are recent immigrants! So they fail the verbal section(500's) and ace the math (700's).

From reading these stats, I realized that my safeties are way too safety, whereas my reaches are WAY out of reach. That's really disporportionate, huh?

I know a bunch of students who got into UCD, UCSB, UCI and UCSC every year.

Immigrants from under-performing High School (School API = 500ish)
Low-income, first generation to go to college
900 - 1000 old SAT
3.3 - 3.7 unweighted
No AP Until Senior Year
A few EC
