I have a 2030 if I get in Ill let you guys know haha

I got a 31 on the ACT and got into Wharton ED. I have good grades and amazing extracurriculars, community service (I run a nonprofit), and letters of recommendation. This whole process taught me that test scores are really just one part of your admission decisionâthe really great schools donât just want kids with strong numbers because that doesnât build a class or diversity. You can be exceptional in other ways to compensate for low scores. Good luck!

I have a question for all of us here: does anyone here think that scores are not completely indicative of ability or achievement? I really believe that super-high test scores are extraordinarily impressive and usually are great indicators, but students without those can still be top scholars in college.

The correlation certainly isnât 100%, some people test very well and others test very poorly, but generally strong test-takers are intellectually able to handle coursework at college and people who canât intellectually handle the college courseload do poorly on the tests. THere is, however a fair amount of people who cannot score very high on these tests who belong at top colleges and thatâs why testing-optional programs work at places like Bowdoin.

I respect your input and do agree that high test scores mean a lot. I really hope to succeed and be able to share my story with my 2030, 31, and 3.93.

I have a 1990. :(

I have a 1890 with a quite bad reading section, but being an international my 105 Toefl I believe changes a bit my situation. My only hope is in my ECâs, recommendations and essay (which I believe is really good). Iâve applied to SEAS.
If I get in, CC will be the first to know it))

I have a 1900 SAT score, no ACT score, Iâm full IB (31 predicted), international, and I still have some hope to get into Wharton (0.1%).

Whatâs the opinion on a low gpa? Which do you think would be would be more damaging- a lower gpa or a lower test score? Like would it be better for a person to have a 2200 and a 3.4 or an 1890 and a 4.0?

Specifically, I have a 31 ACT, 3.66/4.0 GPA on an all honors/AP schedule (not bad, but def too low for UPenn), strong ECs, work experience, strong essays, and Iâm sure my recs are pretty great- though I wouldnât know for sure.

GPA is given more weight, I would say (3.89 at time of application ED and 2030). If you took a challenging schedule (you certainly did), though, I would not worry about that. Your intangibles will make or break you. Good luck!

Although you may be referring to the SAT and not the SAT Subject Tests, I think the fact that I received a 700 on the Math II test and still got into Wharton speaks to the willingness of Penn admissions to overlook lower SAT scores in some cases.

My sisterâwho is Asianâhad a 2150. She did, however, have the highest GPA in the history of our district, so I imagine admissions officers were willing to overlook the SAT score.

I got accepted ED for Upenn with a 1740 SAT score, but I applied separately for this national financial aid program called questbridge that focuses more on our history and ECâs and aids as a supplement for my upenn application

I had a 2060 superscored and am in Wharton now. First semester was bad because I didnât know how to manage time accordingly and the classes are just considerably harder than what Iâm generally used to in high school. But if you just study hard enough, your grades will improve no matter no average or dumb you think you are.

Texasian â
Please post your stats

Yeah, texasian can you please post?

Guys, try looking through a personâs previous posts first before asking for stats.

this thread is interestingâŠkeep posting, please :D

Lol I tried to look for texasianâs stats but I didnât really find any. Besides, some people post a lot so itâd be time-consuming to look through all their posts. & I kinda feel creepy (although I really shouldnât) x).

Anyway, keep posting and with more details please! March 30 at 5PM is when we apparently get decisions haha. I wish everyone luck as well.

I think this thread should be renamed who has gotten âlowâ SAT scores and still made it into penn without any hooks. B/c if this is just low sat scores, then there will be quite a few with hooks like the recruited athletes, URMs, etc. A friend of mine with a 1790 got recruited to play football there, however he turned it down for cornell. Another one of my friends, whose dad is very good friends with one of the Board of Trusteeâs at Penn, said he could have made it too with an sat score of 1830 (and an recommendation from the Trustee). However my friend didnât like Penn and will probably attend university of Florida. So yea without hooks and low sat scores is what i wanna know.
