Who is able to be in the Freshman Research Initiative Program?

I'm majoring in BME and have been accepted into the Engineering Honors Program at the Cockrell School of Engineering. I would love to participate in the Freshman Research Initiative, but on the website it only really mentions the college of natural sciences. Am I still available to join this program? What other programs are there available for freshman that I should try to get into?

Thanks

There is a class called

UGS 310 UNDERGRAD RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Restricted to freshmen and sophomores. Supervised research with a faculty member. Research may consist of an individual project or assisting a faculty research project. With consent of the undergraduate studies research coordinator, may be repeated for credit.

Hour(s) to be arranged.

I have no idea what it is but you can start asking questions how to sign.

You should be able to join FRI as an engineer. However, the labs are focused on the basic sciences so you may enjoy working in a BME lab more.
