who is applying this year? thread for people applying and people with advice

what is the chance to get in if you apply to a 44% school, 66%, 29% and what are baylor and mccallies admission rates?

I’m taking my SSAT in October

Keegan - the chance depends on how qualified you are to attend those schools, what the schools are looking for, and a pinch of random luck

lvillejanice: More than one of my interviewers told me it doesn’t matter when you send them in as long as it is by the deadline, so people who send their’s in in September won’t have an edge over someone who sends it on January tenth.

RadinPlaid96 NMH and Taft over St Pauls? They are easier to get into but don’t be afraid to look.

dkrlehowl: PM Mpiz. He is starting as a new St Pauls sophomore (today actually). He is staying back. In fact I did also (long time ago). They said I was young and actually gave me the choice. I was tired of being the youngest, stayed back and guess what? I was right in the middle age wise and academically it was irrelevant. You have freshman (foreign mostly) taking advanced calculus or whatever. All dorms are mixed with all ages. So class does not matter much.

Urrrrrrrrgh. Why does America have to be so behind in math… I feel stupid. x_x

How many people have interviewed already? Or have registered a date to?

thanks winterset! In my school I think in average for my age in the grade. I guess it depends on the school but I’ll try with being a 10th grader again…

@ lemons: some international schools are behind at math, compared to other international schools of course. But there are some schools in the US that are like way ahead at math. You don’t need to feel stupid!!! Just study ahead that’s what I did, mostly because its so much easier and quicker learning it in korea. And studying ahead makes it easier to learn. (if this is completely useless sorry!)

I feel the same way lemons.can.fly even though I am in the highest math class in my middle school.
Also I have scheduled for my interview and tour and I was wondering if I should register for my SSAT which I am taking in November?

I’ve already done my interview and tour. I have also registered for the SSAT for November

I am very much wondering how much everyone else is studying for the SSAT. My parents take that test very seriously. “Oh, this kid got a 95%, he didn’t get in. With 98% (what my bro got), you’re nearly ensured a spot…”
Sigh. SO I’m almost done with my 1st SSAT prep book, my dad just ordered a second. Though I haven’t taken a practice test yet… I don’t know why, it makes me nervous.

Please tell your parents that a 98%tile garantees nothing…nothing at all.

I agree with neatoburrito. I got a 99% last year (with minimal studying, so you don’t need to stress out at all!) and was still waitlisted. Schools will definitely look at other things.

You don’t need to study so much at all. Maybe two weeks before the test, take a practice test and go over some vocab words in the books (and there’s no need to memorize lists! I seriously just read fifteen or so words I didn’t know, defined them, and then got fed up, haha).

Hi! I just thought I’d introduce myself.
I’ll be applying for boarding school for the '10-'11 school year.

However my educational backround is extremely different from most so I don’t really know my chances of getting in although the admission directors of a few school have said it would be fine and the more interesting the better. Haha.

hey lemons and urbanflop my school’s really slow at math. Even though I’m in the highest math class at my school I learn the same thing, just quicker. My school doesn’t allow people to be in a higher math class as in do pre-cal. when I’m supposed to be doing alg. 2. Hope your schools aren’t like that, if it isn’t luck you!!!

ps. can people just write howl instead of dkrlehowl?? Thanks

Where is everyone thinking of applying?

groton, st. paul’s, and milton:)

Lawrenceville and Emma Willard!

All look like great schools. I haven’t really figured out where I’ll be applying yet, there is so many to choose from.

Haha I agree CaitlinDK. I think I’m allowed to choose one more but I have absolutely no idea which one.
