You can just call me Caitlin. ;)

Which year will you be applying too?

Yeah, I mean I have a lot of schools in mind just trying to narrow it down to about three schools.

I’m applying to Hotchkiss, Deerfield, Exeter, Middlesex, Taft, Tabor, Choate, and Loomis. For 11th grade.

I’ll be applying for 9th grade.
Does anyone know how important the writing prompt on the SSAT is? For example, if you write an essay that seriously sucks, will it really make a difference on whether they accept you or not?
Jeez, that’s the part of the test I’m most nervous for.

I think everyone has their weaknesses. If writing is yours then maybe you should mention that in your application. Usually people struggle with something like math the most, but everyone has something they aren’t the best at. So I would think no it’s not going to make a HUGE deal with your acceptance to your school choice.

*Apologizing in advance for English mistakes. I am American but currently in Denmark as an exchange student for a year so my english is slowly but surely deteriorating.

I still haven’t decided where I’m going to apply. I know I want to apply to 6-8 schools (too many? not enough) and include a couple safeties so I know I’ll be going to BS next year somewhere.

I’m thinking about St. Paul’s, Andover, and Hotchkiss as my three reaches, but I’m not sure about the rest. I need to make a decision my Monday. Any advice?

Also, could y’all check out my chance thread in the “Prep School Chances” section? Thanks!

Andover and Exeter

@howl what math are you doing and what grade are you in

You all seem to want to get into the popular schools which are hard to get into… if you don’t get in what schools will you have as your safeties?

definately Taft, Emma Willard, Choate, Exeter, and Middlesex. exeter seems like a real reach for me though. i sent out an induiry for nmh but it never came. did anyone get one or is it just me?

urbanflop: algerbra 2 and 10th grade…

I am applying for next year, too! I am sooooooo excited.

I am planning to apply to Culver, Pennington, Suffield, Tilton, and maybe someothers. I have been frantically researching schools with merit scholarships because my parents aren’t too keen on paying 40,000 dollars a year, esp. cause we can’t really afford that and I have three siblings.

I would LOVE to go to SPS, Groton, or Middlesex though. I will probably apply their and hopefully get enough FA. I love the thought of a smaller school. I am not to big in the huge schools (Andover, Exeter, ect.)

So orignally I was only going to apply to Emma Willard, but I think i’m going to apply to a few more schools now.
My list is really long right now (and quite generic). I need to narrow it down to probably 4 or 5 schools.
Emma Willard, Andover, NMH, Hotchkiss, Choate, Deerfield, Middlesex and maybe Exeter or SPS.

My main goal is Lawrenceville and my ‘safety net’ is Emma Willard! But I’d really really like to apply to more schools. The thing is, I really don’t know that much about other schools, like what makes them special against one another. All I know is that they’re all great. (like andover, exeter, choate…)

Oh, and is it important to answer accurately on an inquiry form? My dad filled out and submitted my inquiry form for Emma Willard without telling me! He doesn’t know about some of the things I’m interested in joining and I’m afraid :(…

I think it will be fine lvillejanice! I’ve always thought that they really only look at those for your address, i don’t think it holds too much significance.
I just got all of my Emma stuff in the mail today!
It was nice and i’m excited.
Right now only Emma and Andover have arrived. One of these days i’m going to get the mail and there will be like ten packages in the mail for me!

I’ve narrowed down the schools I’m applying to to Exeter, Deerfield, and Middlesex. I’m not completely sure about Andover - I really have to reread their viewbook and go through their website.
None of these are safeties for me, obviously. My safeties are day schools where I live, though I’d really much much much rather get into one of the BSes I’m applying to.

I think I have decided which schools I would like to apply to. Is it too early to start the applications or when should I start them?

I have the same question CaitlynDK.
I’ve already filled out a few rough drafts and written a few rough draft essays but I was wondering when a good time would be to actually send in the application? Would it be too early if I sent it in as soon as I finish a good, final, copy?

Also, when do you recommend giving recommendation forms to teachers? I want to give them ample time to get to know me and fill them out but I like things to be done early so I have no chance of being stuck in a rut or rushed.
How does giving them the forms in early October and asking for them to be done early November sound? That was I won’t be asking too close to a Holiday season or another time where they are very busy.
Will they know me well enough, though? I didn’t start school until September 8th.

I have one more question-
I took the SATs in May 2009 as a sophomore. I am now a junior and applying as a repeat junior for BS for 2010.
Will these SATs count on my BS application?
Just wondering because I think I read on Choate’s website that their SATs need to be taken in the same academic year as you are applying.
No other schools say that. So will my May '09 SATs be okay (as I am not going to apply to Choate)?

how do u get an inquiry package btw? and would it help to be a certified “talented youth” by john’s hopkins? its called cty its a thing we get for sat scores in 7th-8th grade

urbanflop: precalc 9th grade

wow. I am just now finalizing the schools I am pplying to and starting to schedule interviews (they are going to be phone or alumni for me) and you are talking about the essays and applications? I think only a couple have even posted their application forms yet! (or am I just behind, lol)

@howl-I have the exact same problem! My school only lets us advance one year, which is geometry in 9th. It stinks.
