My D will overnight in a dorm on the 7th, and we will both attend on the 8th. Anyone else?

I will be attending the preview day on the 8th! I’m excited about it.

our son, from Madison WI, will do the overnight april 7, and attend the admitted students’ day april 8, but without us parents. interested to see what he thinks!

D is going on Friday. I will probably accompany her with D2. Excited!

^ Have a great time, everyone. I hear the cherry trees are blooming now, so the campus should be beautiful. May you have good weather!

If you get the chance, try the home-made scones in the student-run cafe facing the Mill Stream. Yum.

How did Preview Day go? Did anyone make a decision, yay or nay, based on this visit? D3 has narrowed now to two schools and is anguishing in her final choice between Willamette and Earlham College. I am not sure what is going to be the deciding factor for her. Maybe we will visit one more time.

We had a wonderful Preview day, and my D is now officially a Bearcat!

DuckMom, did you attend yesterday? Pretty great weather for a Preview Day, I must say. My D loved all of the sessions we attended. She was able to speak with a few professors and each one of them left a good impression. She loves the campus, and had a great overnight with a student host. The only thing she’s grappling with now is which dorms to put on her housing request form.

Regarding Earlham - Ease of travel to and from home. Is that an issue?

My D was concerned that Willamette would feel too close to home, but has found that it doesn’t feel that way at all, particularly because it’s in another city. We live in Portland, and she did not consider attending any colleges in Portland because she thought that going downtown on weekends would feel like high school 2.0.

Wow! Congratulations ormom that your daughter has made her decision and it is Willamette. This is my 3rd D. In these last six years, with one or another of them, I have visited 13 different PNW schools (5 public and 8 privates). Willamette was the last one, but definitely a standout in all those PNW schools. D3 and I first visited in December and again in February, for an admitted student visit day. D3 really liked Willamette and it became her #1 choice.

She only applied to one school outside the PNW, Earlham College, but didn’t really expect it to be a contender. Life became complicated, however, when she took Earlham up on their offer to fly her out for a visit and she really enjoyed the entire experience.

Yes, the distance and ease of travel home is a major factor. I would feel so much more comfortable if she chooses Willamette, but I need it to be her choice. I am just here to listen to her talk about the factors and so I am very curious to hear what other admitted students, such as your daughter, decide to do. Congrats again on having this process behind you!

I visited yesterday, but I just had a current student friend show me around because I couldn’t attend the actual preview day due to a morning conflict. I’m very excited about going there next year after seeing how beautiful the campus is and how friendly and happy the students are.

Oregonianmom - I’m from Portland too and had the same concerns as your daughter!
