Who is going to Middlebury next fall?

I don't know if it is my computer illiteracy or what, but it appears that middlebury's website is lacking in one of those forums where future students can get to know each other before orientation. Obviously only the ED1's know right now, but I'd like to know who my future classmates will be!!

Anyone out there?

--jessamy--

P.S. I must admit that a part of this was inspired by jealousy over the fact that my friend is already having hilarious casual conversations with her fellow future...dickinsonians...or whatever you call them (don't you just love 'middkid'?). Why should middlebury students be left out of the fun?

What is your sn suppossed to mean?

it isn't actually supposed to mean something....it's just that for some reason when my french teacher says my name with a french accent (jessamy) she thinks somehow that it reminds her of the song besame mucho...hence...jesamemucho.

no, i am not trying to murder the spanish language. i'm actually pretty much a language fanatic. teach me spanish?

my name is max

i'm going there next fall too

kinda cool. maybe we'll be friends

that would be fun. i always wanted to be friends with someone named max. all the best stories have a character named max in them. where are you from?

jesame...did u get into middlebury with the posse scholarship?

apparently not since i don't know what the posse scholarship is. i got a decent amount of money though. which pleasantly surprised me.

i got into middlebury under EDI

i woke up at 5 a.m (west coast) to turn on my computer and celebrated my acceptance to middlebury.

hopefully i get to know some of you

yesyes. hurrah. future friends, future fun...

I visited Middlebury this summer and out of the 12 colleges I visited it was the only one that left a bad impression on me. Don't get me wrong, our guide was extremely friendly, the campus was awesome and it seemed to have its act together. But the admissions faculty member that gave the information session appalled me. First of all one of the first thing he said was "we'll gladly take your 250,000" immediately talking about money as if it is a laughing matter. I have no idea where he pulled that sum out of...And it didn't stop there. He repetedely referred to money and the high cost of the cottage, which I found rude.

In addition when the students were asked what majors they were interested in, one person said "physical education", another art, and so on. Each of these people were welcomed to explore that major and encouraged. I had researched heavily my options and I told the admissions faculty officer that I was interested in combining the breadth of a liberal arts education with engineering, and that I was interested in the 2-1-1-1 engineering program that Middlebury offers with Dartmouth. He immediately discouraged me and said "Well, you could do that, but most students stay on campus all 4 years". First of all this is wrong because he said just minutes earlier that most students go abroad or to internships their Junior year. Second of all it was just plain wrong of him to discourage a program which Middlebury offers AND promotes!

In the end I decided not to apply to Middlebury because of this. Perhaps I should have. I really did like what I saw.

Hmmm. That's really a shame that you let the words and actions of one individual so profoundly influence your opinion of a college. I can understand if you had negative experiences throughout your day there, but it sounds like it was just this information session that turned you off. So where did you end up applying?

heh...middlebury is great..when i went..i met the director of admissions..the women are soo sweet..he is referring to money i think because they have soo much money to give away and well they were telling us to apply and dont worry about the money because they have money to give away...but i guess my session would be different from yours because I'm a city student who basically can't afford middlebury or even half of it on my own. Also yep..60% of the juniors go away..soo i don't know why he said that..but honestly..middlebury does rock..but if ur more into competing against others..maybe its not for u..i was speaking to an alum yesterday..she was like in midd..there more about competing within..but with others...ppl are pretty helpful..anyway..GOODLUCK!...

i wonder if you had the same info guy i did. i remember him as "my only bad memory of midd." he kept demeaning my intent to study foreign languages by reiterating the fact that 75% of students change their majors, and then mislabeled me as an obnoxious city slicker because i asked how frequently students plan trips into montreal because i saw a pamphlet advertising just such a trip. though i currently live in a very overcrowded, cosmopolitan area, i come from a small town that is even smaller than middlebury itself. he was infuriating. however, i still applied early decision and am looking forward to spending the next four years at midd. you really can't let idiots deter you...you'll find them everywhere. it's a good sign, however, if they stand out from their surroundings.

pardon my ignorance but what is the 2-1-1-1 engineering program??

ooooooh i want to go to middlebury next fall!

i'm going to middlebury next fall!!! i'm so excited! good luck to everyone who will learn their admission status in a few hours, i remember what it feels like to wait
