Who is in FSU class of 2012?

So many of you have applied to many schools, have more than one acceptance, more than one scholarship offer...have options. Options are a beautiful thing and many are still weighing them at this point (it is still early).

But, there is a group of students out there who are already quite clear in their choice to be a 'nole in the class of 2012 and already bleed garnet and gold?

Who is in the FSU class of 2012?

i am!

i already pay the housing fee.

I'll pay the deposit in a few months when i get money!

I am 10char

my s is. applied for wildwood, gilchrest, degraff and bryan for the fall. i keep trying to get him on cc but no luck so far. he did say he signed up for the facebook group that someone started..

I'm in!
Housing and admissions deposit have been paid. I just need to sign up for orientation and one of the previews. Can't wait.

Mom, I'm pretty sure you know my position on this...

For everyone else, I am absolutely, 100% going to Florida State. All fees are paid, I am signed up for a preview, I've gotten my Honors Program Acceptance letter, and I am ready to GO!!!

Alas, I have about a full 9 months ahead of me...

write on, you can try to switch to summer c and join the fun starting June 30th!

I will also be in the FSU Class of 2012. Housing deposit paid, admissions deposit will be soon. I've gotten into a few other places, and am waiting on some more, but it doesn't matter because FSU has long been my top choice.

I got in, not sure if I'll go, did get the university scholarship though. Still waiting on UF and a number of other apps.

good luck with UF and elsewhere war chant!

i think skibird was looking for commited Noles on tbis thread. hopefully you are leaning that way!

Thanks nycollegedad.

nycollegedad

You read me correctly! I am interested in who is committed to FSU all the way at this point in the admissions process.

being oos and not having any bias toward any of the florida universities it is interesting to me how passionate certain folks feel about UF. Don't get me wrong, its a great university and ranked higher (if you care about those things), but for our s it was clear that fsu is a better place for him.

what is fascinating is that a student would turn down a $9k scholarship from fsu to go to uf with no scholarship. I suppose it depends on what you want to study and what your financial situation is. UF has certain programs that are much better than FSU and vice versa. Some people grow up in a "gator" household and can't see themselves as a "nole"

we are happy we had the chance to visit the schools and give our s a chance to evaluate which is better for him.The majority of his friends are attending norheastern schools or big tem. a few are going to schools like tulane and Miami (florida). Most are mystified why he wants to go to fsu. we feel like the florida schools are one of the best kept secrets up here.

for those opting out of fsu and going to uf or elsewhere i wish them well!

My dh and I are both Auburn Univ grads so we don't have any bias in our home regarding any of the universities of FL either. Our d visited every major univ in FL and some private oos also. It was very obvious to her that FSU was the right "fit" for her. Visiting so many schools (started her junior year) helped her to clarify what she was looking for in a post high school institution. She knew FSU was for her and UF was definately not. She didn't even apply to UF even though her closest friends did and may ultimately go there.

Since our dd is planning on grad school, the merit money is not something that she is going to throw away. She stayed in state for undergrad for that very reason (Florida Bright Futures Scholarship).

For those students who find a better personal "fit" elsewhere, I hope they have an awesome college experience!

nycollegedad,

Out of curiosity, what got you and your son interested in Florida schools? I'm very glad that you're highly considering them regardless, but I was just wondering why they sparked your interest, since you hail from New York and whatnot.

weather for one thing. we have visited many large state universities (big ten schools, big east schools and new york state SUNY schools. The florida schools seemed to have all our son wanted. weather, good academic programs (my son specifically is interested in finance/real estate which fsu has good programs in), the cost is really not significantly more than the new york state SUNY schools. the SUNY schools with room and board and all other various costs comes in around $18K for in state residents. when you compare that with all you get at a school like florida state, there seems like no comparison. I also think, while my s has many close friends, he is looking to branch out and try a new experience. he could have gone to a school like wisconsin, pittsburgh or indiana with many friends from his high school, but he would rather meet new people and experience the southern life for a while!

last summer we came down to tally during seminole sensation week in august and fell in love with it. somehow, while FSU is a large university it manages to feel much smaller which we liked. everyone we have met from syudents to parents to admissions reps all have been so nice, welcoming and helpful. we haven't been treated that way with any other school we visited. To give you an example... During our visit to FSU last august, we met a lovely afmissions rep. She was so nice and helpful, when we returned, my san began to email her and ask questions. to make a long story short. on the day he got admitted (last wednesday), when he came home from school, there was a message on our home phone from her congratulatinghim. How nice is that.

I could go on and on, we are just happy he got in and he is psyched to be a nole! Tuition and housing deposit have been paid. hopefully at some point you will meet him (perhaps at preview or orientation) i think he signed up for the fsu class of 2012 facebook.

I created the facebooks group.. what's your son's name?

I'm glad to hear that you liked the weather...that really is a plus for the Florida schools. The winters are cold to the thin-blooded Floridians like myself, but your son will probably think it rather warm. :-)

I'm also on the Facebook group! If your son has any questions or wants to chat about FSU, you can tell your son that my name is posted as "Sara C." on Facebook and I'm in the Gulf Coast High School network.

I'm in the Class of 2012!
Applied for housing already(#43)
With the University Scholarship and the highest level of Bright Futures (I forget what it is called), you really can't get a better deal!

See you in Summer C!

Congrats hiphopopotamus on the Univ & Bright Futures! That is awesome!

NYCollegedad - I'm glad to hear that ya'll got to experience true southern hopitality from FSU. I think that is one of the major factors that our d was charmed by when visiting FSU. People have that "southern warmth" in Tallahassee that you generally don't find in Gainesville, Miami, Tampa or SWFL.
Our d also loved the compactness of the campus (being able to walk from one corner to the next in a relative short time).
The big plus is they have outstanding programs in the academic areas she has interest.
