You're going to have to be a lot more specific than that. What field of geology- historical, physical, geochemistry, stratigraphy, structural/tectonics, or other? What specifically within that field?

A good start would be figuring out what you want to study. It doesn't have to be extremely specific, but you need to have a good idea of what you're interested in -- this is vital for a strong personal statement. Within geophysics one might want to study volcanology, for example.

You should meet with one of your geology professors, perferably one who specializes in geochem or geophysics. (S)he is the person most likely to know where you should apply and what your chances are.

ok thank you. is rice university a good school for environmental engineering? I heard that it is one of the top institutions in the U.S for this.
