Who is knowledgeable about laptops?

So basically I want to buy the Asus Vivobook v551, however my only hesitation is the battery life
My question is, can I buy an extended battery? If so, where?
Thanks

You can buy batteries all over the place. Try the place where you buy the computer. Just make sure you buy them from a reputable place (lots of cheap/bad batteries out there).

FYI: Batteries are expensive - $50-$100. You might be better off putting extra money into a more efficient processor.

Why do you need so much life? Can’t find a place to plug in?

It’s only a 3 cell battery that comes with the computer, or up to 5 hours and just from seeing all these other computers with 6 and 9 cell batteries, it makes me weary if 3 cell will be sufficient

What do you need more than 5 hours for? Remember, there are lots of places to plug in.

I just wanted to add that this may not always be the case. It will depend on where you’re using the computer, as the availability of outlets can vary widely by location. At my school, for example, it could be hard to find an open outlet, even in the library. I new where most of them were on campus, just because you always have to fight for them because there are many more students who need to charge their laptops than the number of available outlets. There have been times I’ve brought a surge protector with me, just so that I can share an outlet in a lecture hall.

It can also be helpful if you live off campus to have a computer with a long battery life, so that you don’t have to bring the charger with you to campus. That being said, I always carried the charger with me, and I never needed more than three hours of battery life when I was on campus.

Don’t underestimate the power of a longer battery life. You never know.
-If you’re going on a long trip and need to like finish up some typing or a presentation longer battery life can still help. Or maybe you want to make a quick stop at a friend or a meeting without bringing a lot of stuffs.
-And the accidentals: Power outages, left cord at home/work/school, lack of outlets or outlets out of reach (seen that happen to someone twice).

And correct me if I’m wrong but that’s the most efficient processor he can get right now.

@cry: The main feature with Hashwell’s processors is that they provide longer battery life. Are there any links or reviews that demonstrate how long the battery life is? typically a 15 inches should have average to good battery life unlike a 17 inch (which is like 3 hours top).

They give about 40-50% more on the new Macbook Airs, but Apple also underclocked the processors even more along with the Haswell upgrade. The 13" is shown to get ~12-14 hours battery life in real world use, the 11" is shown to get ~10-11 hours.

@operadad I would like to have a longer battery just for a safety blanket I guess you can say

@descuff up to 5 hours

@barrk123 I don’t want a Mac

I wasn’t suggesting a Mac, I was giving an example of how much a battery life increase Haswell provides.

Oh sorry about that, well is my concern about the battery life worth having our should I not be worried?
