Who is someone who has had significant influence on you/who is your role model/etc.

This seems to be a pretty common essay/interview question, and I've been thinking about what sorts of role models are acceptable answers. Admissions aside, the most honest answer for me would be a friend of mine who is only a few years older than me (still in college). I think I could write a decent essay about this person and their influence on me, and that such an essay would say things about me I want reflected in my app. So I'm wondering, is it OK to write about a friend who is similar in age to me? Or should I try to think of an adult in an older generation instead?

Related follow up question: should the adult be someone in my life (parent, teacher, etc.), or a public/historical figure?

Thanks.

The main thing about this topic is that you have to make sure that you don’t focus the essay too much on the other person. The essay is supposed to be about you, so make sure you focus on how that person has affected you, rather than just describing the person. If you feel like you could do that, then I think using your friend would work
