Who looks at supplementary abstract?

And now for my second thread of the day: (no, I DON'T spend my life on CC AT ALL)

I sent a supplementary research abstract that was an overview of the project I am entering in the Intel Science Talent Search. This has been bugging me for quite some time, but who reviews these abstracts?

Unless you're a researcher in the field, you're going to look at my abstact and be like, "Wow, how...sciency!" It's rather technical. Now, if you actually ARE a researcher, then you'd examine it with a MUCH more critical/skilled eye, especially given that I am working in a new and still somewhat controverial field.

Seeing as how Yale obviously has some highly qualified reserachers that they could potentially call on...do they? Or is it more like, ok, complicated reserach project, check, move on?

They send it to professors in the appropriate science department.

$#!&%

I just found a mistake in mine. Wah. (It's not something a layperson would pick up, but a scientist might.) cry

Oh well...hey, I have Reese's Pieces, so the night's not a total loss.

i sent in an abstract too. for my intel stuff.

^Hey, fellow Intel entrant! God, I'm SO GLAD that's over with...worse than applying to college really :D

Yikes, I'd forgotten about that in all the stress of the Yale EA...I guess I'll have some stress to look forward to in January, when the semi-finalists are announced.

/gah

Hey I entered Intel too. The semifinalist announcement date is 1 day b4 my bday. That would be a kickass early bday present.

i wasnt that good. i didnt make it to nationals or whatever the next level is from regional....i got a bio prize or something

woo! go intel!

jenny, r u talking about ISEF?

yeah doesnt intel only do 1 fair....but there are different levels. like you have to win on a reginonal level to get to the international and such...
i went to the regional for my area and u had to get 1st and 2nd to move on...i got one of the other prizes but i didnt place.... i did intel my junior year

^Jenny, I think you entered the Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). That one includes more levels--you have to win a school competition, then a regional, and so on. There's also the Intel Science Talent Search, which doesn't have a "qualifying" round, per se, but you have to be a high school senior to enter.

I've entered the ISTS, but I just found out that my project may be ineligible for this year's ISEF :( I worked with vertebrate animals TISSUE, not vertebrate animals, so I was able to get an excemption from the ISTS. The ISEF, despite being sponsored by the same company and basically run by the same panel, has decided to be extra annoying and use diffrerent rules.

/GAH
