Who or Whom?

Is my use of "whom" correct in this sentence or should I use "who"?

"In this way, the German government created a sense of resolve against Jews and other people WHOM the Germans considered to be evil."

You're correct.

When do you know to use whom?

you use who if it's a subject or predicate noun. you use whom if it's an object.

general:

who followed by a verb or question.
whom followed by a noun.

I was just thinking about this the other day, and I never really had a clear understanding, so the safe way was to default to who :DDDD

Now i know

my way of knowing:
I gave the book to Joe who used to eat ice cream every morning.
I gave the book to Joe whom I like very much because he is hot.

first you take out the part of the sentence which is describing the subject or object (in this case the object: Joe).so for the first sentence, take out"who used to eat IC every morning". now rewrite it as an independent sentence: "He used to eat IC every morning". do the same for the second sentence: "whom I like very much because he is hot"--> "I like him very much because he is hot". it can be hard to translate the clauses to independent sentences, but if you can, remember:
if it is HE it will be WHO (also: she, they etc)
if it is HIM it will be WHOM (also: her, them etc)

in other words, if the decribed thing (Joe) is the subject of only the CLAUSE (not the whole sentence), use WHO. however if the desribed thing is the object of the clause, use WHOM (what the others said)

wasnt there a question on the last act with the who/whom option?

What's the def/identification of a Subject and an Object?

This was on my english test. I guessed B for all of them. Luckily, she tried to trick us and made all the answers B. W00t for me.

the subject is what the sentence is about (whoever or whatever is doing something) and the object is what is being done, or what is being affected by the subject's actions, etc

Tim gives bread to Joe
Subject- Tim
Objects- bread (direct object), Joe (indirect object)

Bob and Bobette hate Tim
Subjects- Bob and Bobette
Obj- Timmy

Exactly...
