Who REFUSES to go to college in their homestate/city?

I don’t want to go to Northwestern, DePaul, Loyola, UIC, UIUC, ISU, etc.

I refuse to consider applying to any schools in Texas, or the south, or most of the midwest.

I HATE GEORGIA…i dont wanna go to georgia tech!!!

i wanna go to either ucla or michigan!!!

I will not even consider going to school in Maryland or DC, especially because I already have a safety I’d be thrilled to attend that isn’t in those areas.

Mississippi is the worst state out of all mentioned so far. i can’t wait to leave.

Some days I want to stay in Cali (nostalgic) and other days I want to go to school way on the East Coast (adventurous). Both have their advantages..I guess it depends on how I feel on April 30th ._.

I refuse to go to college in Michigan. (Except U of Michigan is hard to say no to with scholarships and in state tuition.)

I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. There were tens of great schools I could have gone to in the city, and even more in the state as a whole. No way! I needed to move far from home. I needed to get away from my brother. I hate cold weather, so I needed to move south. I didn’t apply to a single college in the north.

So I went to college in Florida, and it was great! I fell in love with the area, with the warm weather, beaches, greenery, flowers, wildlife… I could go on. I will never move back north.

absolutely ABHOR ASU, never will visit that school yet go there.. it’s a DISGRACE. As is NAU. thank you very much.

haha I’m originally from South Florida, didn’t consider location in applying to college (which is stupid because I’m a homebody), ended up at Northwestern, and might be transferring back to UMiami

I feel bad for the residents of Idaho, Wyoming, North and South Dakota and Alaska, mostly because there are practically no prestigous or popular colleges there.

Can anyone who doesn’t live in that general geographic region name two universities from those states that don’t begin with “University of …”?
All I can think of is Boise State (Idaho)

i wouldnt REFUSE to go to school in NJ but i just didnt apply to any. going to princeton wouldve been a dream but there was no way i was getting in. i didnt want to go to rutgers like 10% of my graduating class (some that have s*** for brains) and i didnt want to follow in my brothers footsteps and go to TCNJ even though its a good school becuase i wanted to go into business and theyre better for the sciences. and at that point i said i NEEDED to be near a city so that ruled out TCNJ. those are really the only 3 schools, imo, i wouldve considered “good enough” for me in the state.

my safeties were OOS big state schools. like penn state and delaware where good amounts of people from my graduating class wind up going too

I am not applying to UMD… not a good fit for me; the only college that I have in Maryland is Loyola College-and it’s a safety. Most of my college choices are in California.

I’ll just let all the people that want to go to UMD apply there… it just won’t be me!

Well as much as I say I would HATE to go to school in state (there is nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, good about Arizona), I know that if money poses a problem I will stay in state.

Granted, if there were a school that I actually liked in Arizona I would be willing to stay in state for it. But for some reason, a school of 40,000 people (along with 80% of my graduating class who are moving on to college) getting drunk literally every other night of the week does not appeal to me.

The only school I am applying to in Pennsylvania is UPITT which is 4 or so hours away from where I live. Its not that I don’t want to live close to home though, since that is the school that is furthest away from where I live. (other schools are in DC, Baltimore and NY).

My S not only doesn’t want to stay in CT, but he refuses to be anywhere in New England!

I’ve got you all trumped. West Virginia. Yeah, I got out of there REAL fast. Best decision I’ve ever made.

I refused to go to a college in-state and, looking back, I think there were some pretty good fits for me here. I live in a pretty small state, but there were definitely opportunities to be in a different environment, and be fairly far away from home. I wouldn’t rule out a college JUST because it’s in your home state.

Heh, being from Wyoming, I think this is probably the worst state to go to college in…in the whole state, there are 6 community colleges and the University of Wyoming. That’s it. And UW would basically be just like high school all over again except in a not-beautiful part of the state; a lot of people go there because of an amazing full-ride scholarship deal for good grades and ACTs…
As much as I love living here, definitely escaping for college

70% of the people who go to college from my school go to a UMaine, mostly UMaine Orono. I WILL NOT GO THERE. High school all over again.
