Who said the Pac-10 is a weak conference?

Hmmm...well, the East Coast sportswriters at CBS still predict two Pac-10 teams in BCS games:

I agree.

In fact, there is still a small change there could be three Pac-10 BCS bids, as USC still has a (small) shot at an at-large bid if they win out. What helps USC's cause is their large national fan base which makes them more attractive to the bowls.

Arizona inadvertently does Pac-10 a big disfavor.

So you just want them to hand the game over? You obviously have never played competitive sports.

"So you just want them to hand the game over? You obviously have never played competitive sports."

Don't make generalizations that are unsupported, you fool. How do you know I never played competitive sports, you don't even know me.
I never said I wanted them to hand the game over. Can people from Florida read?
I just commented on the fact that by beating Oregon, Arizona just cost Pac-10 millions of dollars in revenue. Obviously, Arizona should and did played their hearts out. Who said they shouldn't? The fact remains they did Pac-10 a disfavor.

Look, I agree that Arizona has probably done a disfavor to the Pac-10 as a whole.

But on the other hand, Arizona is itself fighting for a chance at a bowl, as well it should. I don't think anybody here disputes that Arizona should be fighting as hard as it can to improve its own position. Just like every team in the country should be trying to defeat every opponent it faces, even if it means denying a fellow conference member a chance at the national championship. I hope that nobody 'blames' Stanford for beating USC and knocking them out of the championship race. {After all, if USC's only loss was that 1-TD loss at Oregon, then I would say that USC would still be very credible championship contenders, especially if they wallop their 2 remaining opponents.}

But even given what has happened, I think we should keep in mind that the Pac-10 still has a shot at sending a team to the national championship game. After all, Arizona State is still just a 1-loss team, with a couple of important games left to play (especially against USC). If Arizona State wins those games big, and a few other teams (i.e. Kansas) lose, then I would say that ASU has a shot at the BCS game and then the Pac-10 won't have lost anything. I don't think things are as grim as people are making it out to be.

I don't feel Arizona did a disfavor to the Pac10. Oregon without Dixon is kinda like a toothless tiger. I'd rather have them beat now by a Pac10 team than see them somehow slide into a NC game and then get blown out by LSU or whatever.

Totally agree with you sakky. That was my whole point. Of course every team should bring their "A" game to every match, otherwise what would be the point of football, or any other sports for that matter. It's just unfortunate that Dixon had to go down at that moment.

as a side note, cal womens' basketball is ranked pre-season #8 in the country by espn.

cal really needs to pick it up against udub

What a horrible season for Cal football. At least, there will be parity in the Big Game, unlike last year.

Crash and burn...like watching a train wreck. Cal has lost all motivation. I wouldn't be surprised if Cal loses the 110th Big Game.

...me neither. stanfurd has all the motivation in the world, cal has virtually none.

think d-jax will leave for the draft? i think another year would serve him well, but i don't get the feeling he came to cal to spend 4 years here.

Hmmm...millions of dollars or a degree from Cal?

I agree, he wanted to put on a show...now, I think he might exit for a bigger stage.

We'll miss Forsett more.

True, and Hawkins.

who do you think will take over at Michigan? I think it will be hard to lure Miles away from LSU, he has such an illustrious job there. JoePa ?

I think Miles would go if offered.

JoePa is way too old. He'd never leave Penn State.

JoePa is doing no better job at Penn State. I think Penn State is getting tired of him but it's hard to ask a guy who brought them NC a while back to leave.

haha, i was jking about JoePa, he'll be buried in that stadium.

this is interesting though:

"Carr is trying to exit in keeping with the principles he has preached to his teams - that no one is bigger than the program, that the kids are the story, not the coach. Turning this season into the Lloyd Carr retirement tour (win one for the glarer?), or this week becoming Beat-OSU-For-Lloyd week isn't in keeping with what Carr has stood for.

At the same time, he doesn't want to lie and give the impression he's returning, so we're all stuck playing a sort of kabuki theater - everyone knows what's really going on, but we ask the retirement question because we're professionally obligated, and Carr answers as best he can, but never really answers.

A thousand or so miles away, Louisiana State coach Les Miles is stuck playing the same game.

The Michigan grad is coaching the No. 1 team in the country and is obviously going to at least get a phone call when Lloyd Carr retires, although nobody outside of athletic director Bill Martin knows whether that's going to be a courtesy phone call or a please-come-on-home plea.

If Miles says he's interested in the job, he's being disloyal to his team and disrespectful to Carr. If he says he has no interest, he's going to be seen by many Michigan fans as running down the school he claims to love.

So Miles, like Carr, continues to walk a fine line, essentially promising nothing, most recently on the Jim Rome show Wednesday, where he made it clear he has had no contact with Michigan.

Will Miles be the next coach here if Carr steps down?

Not if Carr announces any time soon. Jilting LSU in the midst of a potentially championship season would go against everything Miles' mentor Bo Schembechler stood for, and it would be impossible for Miles and Michigan to both hold out for nearly eight weeks as the Tigers chased the title.

Carr knows that, so you can consider the date of his official announcement a bit of a referendum on whether or not he wants Miles to have a shot at the job. "

especially that last part. interesting stuff.

Is there any hope for next year because I really don't see any. We are losing all our offensive weapons, Hawkins, Forsett, Jordan, Jackson (most likely) and worst of all we still have Nate as our QB. The defense looks just plain horrible, how do you give up over 300 yds rushing, absolutely sickening. I don't know I am not looking forward to next year I just don't see any positives to look at, someone please enlighten me.

look forward to a great education :D

^^ And sometimes I doubt you'll even get that. Just kidding. I kid, I kid. I poke fun because I love ;)
