Who said the Pac-10 is a weak conference?

I think there will be some coaching changes at the end of this season. I would be surprised if the DC and STC stick around, and possibly even the d-line coach. I heard Tedford let it loose in the locker-room after the game though, so loud that people outside the tunnel could hear him. Good for him, the team deserves it. I guess they were also going to have easier practice over Thanksgiving break, but they're going back to "day 1 at camp."

^ Someone definitely needs to light a flame under 'em. It shows character if a team that loses a chance at the big prize doesn't fold and get soft.

With all the offensive firepower the team has they've been playing like crap!

How many more goal line stands is Cal gonna be stuffed?! Frustrating!

tell me about it. I'll be glad when this season is over.

wowzers, anyone think Pac 10 can pull off 3 in the top 10 in the final rankings?

i doubt it, but i do think oregon and asu can finish in the top-10. the pac-10 basically beat itself up this year.

^
well, asu and usc are gonna play; so someone has to give; so just like you said, pac-10 beat itself up.

i doubt oregon can beat ucla without dixon; with the way oregon state has been playing lately, oregon state is gonna be favored IMO. i really like oregon and it sucks the team goes down like this.

i think pac10 should be splitted into 2 divisions with a championship game; each team should play 4 instead of 3 oos games like teams in other conferences so each team would have easier time to collect more wins (most teams in other major conferences have easy oos schedule) and would miss one Pac10 team in the regular season; this would lower the extent of beating itself up.

How would you split it?

^ I would add two teams to the Pac-10: Colorado and Utah

This 12 team conference would then be split into a North and South division:

North:
Washington
Washington State
Oregon
Oregon State
Utah
Colorado

South:
Cal
Stanford
USC
UCLA
ASU
Arizona

The Pac-12 would have their own conference championship game, and their own TV network, like the Big 10. The network would cover all the major markets in the West.

Except that the south conference would be loaded while the north conference is relatively weak. In the north, only Oregon and Colorado would have good chances at winning the conference year in and year out (given the other teams' recent history).

In the south though, Cal, UCLA, USC, and ASU are capable of winning it. It's too imbalanced, esp bc it would have bowl implications.

^ True, but this breakdown would preserve the traditional in-state rivalries between divisions. They'd play each other every year, as usual.

I guess you could have a mountain/coast division:

Mountain:
Colorado
Utah
Arizona
Arizona State
Washington State
Oregon State

Coast:
Washington
Stanford
Cal
UCLA
USC
Oregon

or, split Nor Cal and So Cal:

Northwest:
Washington
Washington State
Oregon
Oregon State
Cal
Stanford

Southwest:
USC
UCLA
Colorado
Utah
Arizona
ASU

Northwest:
Washington
Washington State
Oregon
Oregon State
Cal
Stanford

Southwest:
USC
UCLA
Colorado
Utah
Arizona
ASU

That one seems like the best!

Why not BYU instead of Colorado? It's in the same state as Utah and it's probably easier to lure a team from mid-major than from another major conference.

Does this look like a facility that will attract top recruits?:

I think NOT! Memorial Stadium is a dump and needs to be renovated!

Hopefully, the lawsuit decision will result in a win for Cal soon!

It could be either BYU, Utah, Colorado or Colorado State.

Anyone of these schools are worthy. I've just heard that Colorado fans would like to jump ship because they'd rather watch games in Seattle, San Fran, and LA versus Manhattan, KS and Norman, OK.

Also, the Pac-10 would likely want the larger market teams and the schools that have higher academic standards.

So, it could be Utah and BYU. Or, Colorado and Colorado State.

Heck, add em all and become an uber conference: The Pac-14!

The problem is, the California schools are snobbish and don't want to divy up their money among more teams. But, adding two huge markets, Denver and Salt Lake City, could be enticing.

Which two of the 4 are more selective in terms of admission? BYU?

In the '90s when the Big 12 was being formed, Texas wanted to join the Pac-10:

"First, the Longhorns looked west, to the Pac-10. Berdahl found it appealing that seven of the 10 schools in the Pac-10 were members of the American Association of Universities, a group comprised of the nation's top 62 research universities.

Distance was the main drawback. The University of Arizona, located in Tucson, was the nearest Pac-10 school to Austin — and still 788 miles away. Eight of the 10 schools were in the Pacific Time Zone, meaning a two-hour time gap with most of Texas.

"Texas wanted desperately the academic patina that the Pac 10 yielded," recalls Berdahl, who went on to serve as chancellor at Pac-10 member California-Berkeley. "To be associated with UCLA, Stanford and Cal in academics was very desirable."

Still, expansion in the Pac-10 depended on unanimous approval of the member schools. And Stanford, which had long battled UT in athletics as well as academics, objected. For UT, the way west never materialized."

Pac-10 academic patina, eh?

Why do I think that Texas is actually superior academically to schools like, say, Arizona State, Oregon State or Washington State?
