I know what I want to list as first, but I need help arranging these others/ruling out one for my top 5.

Jester W, Jester E, Brack/Pra/Rob, San Jacinto, Moore-hill (what's the price for this one? Is it the 8k price tag or is it the same price as San Jacinto?).

I also might be forgetting dorms that might fit me well. Basically, I'm just looking for a quiet place that isn't too far away from the 'premed' class area (near The Tower). I ruled out Duren because of that criterion and San Jacinto is a stretch (I don't want to pay the extra 2.5k for that dorm if I can find a better place that fits my needs). I was on here before with a shopping list of needs, but now all I want is a quiet place to live that isn't way too far from my premed classes/neurobio major classes.

Thanks, any other dorm suggestions, pros, cons, arguments, etc. are all welcome! I was told to put the Jester(s) at the bottom of my list (do I need to list both Jesters or are they just one option?) because those are the dorms I'd most likely get into anyways. Other than that, I'm looking for input. Brack/Pra/Rob dorms seem nice and quiet and are in close proximity to the lively Jester dorms, so those seem great to list as no.2.

I live in a single in Brackenridge, and have really enjoyed it this year.

Pros:
Great built in furniture. Shelves, cabinets, and dressers are all built into little nooks in the wall so it saves a lot of space. They look pretty nice also.
The location is good. The dorm is right in between jester and san jac, so you can easily walk to food or study lounges. It is also close to bus stops and across the street from the gym.
-Generally, the dorm is pretty quiet so you can study in your room.
All three dorms (Brack/Prath/Rob) have “get togethers” every month or so. It’s a great way to meet people and get free food!
Even though Brackenridge has community bathrooms, only about 6 other people share one with you. That means you never have to wait for a shower :)

Cons:
I hate the laundry room. There’s only 3 washers and people always leave their clothes in it, so it may take a while to do laundry on some days.
My room is by one of the entrances, so I hear the doors open and close and people stomping down the stairs all day long. It can get annoying.
The mailroom is in Prather, so hauling packages across the courtyard and up 21st isn’t always fun.

Brackenridge and Roberts are connected through the basement levels, so thats kinda nifty. Theres also TV lounges, and a game room with vending machines and a pool table, and a small kitchen thing (but I’ve never seen anyone use it).

I am also a freshman who will be attending UT.

I recognize your username Viggyram haha.

I am personally considering Jester. According to people, It is close to the gym and the library.
I personally like to have
a quiet place to study
close to the workout gym
close to the library
close to my classes (engineering. However, freshman classes are all the same?)

But I’m strongly considering Jester since it is cheaper and many freshmen live there.
There will always be things to do if i choose to do so. But I could also just study at the library right across the street.

I’m just wondering whether I am too late to have the choice of getting the dorm i want.
Also, I want to find the roommate that fits my interest before I submit an application.
Do you know where I can find one?
Or perhaps you could be my roommate, who knows. haha

@dhs911230, I believe that the $50 payment secures your spot in line. You can play around with your choices until the date it says on the housing page (June 7th? Something in June though). Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but there is no rush to fill out your top 5 choices as long as you paid the $50 (nothing you can do to enhance your chances/ruin your chances after that $50 is in. That holds your spot.)

Jester does not seem to have bunkable beds. From what I’ve seen, bunkable beds save a lot of room. Do Moore-Hill and brackenridge/prathers/roberts dorms have bunkable beds?

Also, which dorms have private baths for the couple that share a room? Are there any that fit this bill?

I’m pretty sure all of the beds in San Jac are loftable, so you can shove your desk or dresser underneath, but only some of the rooms in Jester (I think the renovated ones) are like this. A lot of the rooms in Jester have annoying little built in beds that look like sofas that are stuck against the wall. The doubles in Brack. just seem to have a set of bunk beds, and you cannot loft singles. I saw a double in Roberts that has 2 separate beds. Not sure about Moore-Hill or the others…

For baths, I know San Jac and Jester both have private baths in certain rooms. Jester also has some suites that share a bathroom between 2 rooms. I know when I was first doing my housing options I was really apprehensive towards the whole “community bath deal,” but it isn’t bad at all. The maintenance people clean them multiples times during the day, and you don’t have to worry about keeping it clean, and buying toilet paper and junk.

@ViggyRam-
The $50 is the application fee. Accepting the contract and the $300 deposit ensures a place on campus.

Room assignment preferences are filled in the order of the application (and $50 fee) as long as the contract is returned by the expiration date and selections made by July 1.

If we do not find a roommate through the Roommate Profiler, what does UT use to match one up with a roommate? Is it as simple as gender and major or is there a full-out questionnaire? I’m hoping for the latter, but I’m not sure.

If you do not find a roommate, you will be assigned a roommate completely randomly.

All the beds in San Jac are loftable (adjustable height) and most people to raise their beds and have their desks underneath.

About 3/4 of Jester East is renovated and has the same beds and furniture as San Jac/Duren.

Upper Jester East floors and all of Jester West have the bed-couch beds. I prefer (and would assume most people) prefer the loftable beds since it creates more space in your room.
