Who will I see on Spring Insight Open House, April 10?

Not sure why some of your parents would be scared about Floatopia…its college, kids party…

You all should be fine, it will be on the beach which is unseen from really anywhere on campus. You gotta go past the lagoon and past the dorms to get to the beach and most places where the beach is is hidden by cliffs. Don’t freak too much!

My husband and I were at spring insight with our son last year and didn’t even know floatopia was going on. It was a great day.

I wish I could attend profile day, but it is on my 18th birthday. :frowning:
tell us how profile day is though!

I heard from a friend who is working spring insight for his frat that it isn’t really neccessary to attend. It’s just a bunch of touring and what not, for those with multiple open houses that day, you’ll be fine skipping this day and just coming for a campus tour some other day

I’m a transfer not a freshman…thank God. and is Floatopia still happening i heard the cops are blocking off beach access on IV

Whaaat? They’re still having floatopia even though alcohol is banned?

Just read this…

Sheriff’s deputies will be stationed at access points to the beach throughout Isla Vista, while university officials will be patrolling access on campus. Anyone found on the beach this weekend will be subject to citation or arrest, authorities said.

“We’re doing this to prevent a public nuisance,” Hernandez said, calling last year’s event “uncontrolled chaos.”

“Anyone found on the beach this weekend will be subject to citation.”
Wait… we can’t even go on the beach? I find THAT to be hard to believe.
Wow, how would that look to my parents on the day of Spring Spotlight…
Oh my god I would be SOOO P***** if that happened

[Daily Sound ? Authorities to close I.V. beaches ahead of Floatopia](http://www.thedailysound.com/News/040610floatopia)

Ughhhh I’m so angry it has to be THIS weekend. :l

Will there be actual guided tours of the campus/residence halls?
That’s super important to me and my parents…

Honestly…f*** that. They CAN’T close down the beach…what are they gonna do arrest/give out citations to 15,000 people? I could care less about a citation, but still…think they’re just trying to scare us all…no way they’d actually do this.

greenlash, yes there are.

I read that they will have tours but they will not go inside the dorms. Better get in contact with someone who goes there to show you their dorm if that’s what you’re looking for

I distinctly remember last year there were tours of the dorms. Perhaps they changed it up but I don’t see why.

Here is information on Spring Insight: http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/pdf/SpringInsight.pdf

Floatopia is still going down people! The police are in for a rude awakening:

LOL. This will be interesting. Well, if my parents see this, there goes any chance of me going there. ;)

The humorous thing about all of this is that last year, when Floatopia fell on the same day as Spring Insight, UCSB ended up having a record enrollment (over 4,500 enrolled when the target was 4,100) due to the yield rate being one of the highest in UCSB’s history (it was over 23% when it was almost always below 21% in years prior).

^I don’t think it is a direct cause of the open house, but more so the budget cuts. In past years more people had more choices. In these times, people will take what they have. I think you will probably see an increased yield rate again this year.

Honestly, I don’t think this should be the main reason for you to attend or not to attend the University.
