I'm applying to 4 colleges: New College, UF, UCF and FSU. I've already been accepted to UCF, it seemed pretty easy to get into, and I figured it would be the same for FSU. But after seeing some posts on here it seems tougher to get in.

How good a chance do I have??? I know UF is a reach, with only about 20% acceptence rate, and UCF had a 60% acceptance rate...where does FSU fit in?

I think you will be admitted as long as you applied by October 10. If you missed the first deadline, you still have very good credentials, but there is a chance that there may not be enough spots left to accommodate you.

Congratulations on your admittance to UCF so you can relax since you have a very good option available already via their rolling admission. Best of luck with your other applications.

Thanks so much. I was worried about them not having some of my stuff, but I called today and the admissions lady made me feel better. ;)
Also...does anyone know how safe it is there?? Not that it's going to defer me from going there if it's not the safest place but my top choice...I can always just be careful...but I"m just wondering, because my mom's friend said Tallahassee is kind of ghetto-ish????

I'm curious, where does your mom's friend live? I definitely would not consider Tallahassee ghetto-ish. Actually, I almost choked when I read your post -ha! It's all relevant to what you are used to I suppose.

I've visited Tallahassee, and it's no more ghetto-ish than a place like Gainesville. Big cities like Miami, Orlando, and Tampa are WAY more ghetto-ish. I just read the other post that listed FSU as the safest college in Florida(#36 nationally).

Tally is absolutely gorgeous. I live in Chicago (non-ghetto-ish from my viewpoint for the most part) and have found Tally to be a wonderful small city/large town with lots to offer. I'd live there any day! :)

And yes, Tampa is way more ghetto-ish. No comparison. I lived there for 10 years.

tally has its ghetto areas from what ive heard but when ur coming from a city like miami as i am, its hard to really think that tally is ghetto. no, i dont live in a ghetto place in miami but its not that far away and i think any place here is more ghetto for the most part than an area in tallahassee. liberty city, little haiti, little havana, naranja, cutler ridge, downtown, north miami, all ftL in terms of ghettoness. although i have to admit, some are beaitiful places.

sorry for going off topic, lol, was about to go full out into a social area conversation with myself about my city.

haha lol, thanks a lot! my mom's friend lives in a very suburby/small town area so i guess that explains it...
LOL
Anyone who goes there, has been there, etc what are some special points about the place? both the school and the city. where do people go on weekends, what do people like to do on and off of campus, etc..

^ Really? I guess you may have explored the surrounding areas more than I did. I found the campus and most of the areas around it to be pretty nice. It's really close to downtown Tally, and it's pretty nice. Heck, it's only a mile from the Governor's mansion, and less than a mile to the capital and Supreme Court lol. So I think it's pretty nice.

Yes, there were some "marginal" looking people strolling around on the periphery of the campus. When my son and I visited in March, he even noticed it. But like anything else, your kid needs to be savvy and aware of their surroundings. Hopefully they already know not to walk alone in these areas late at night, & especially don't mouth off to anyone.

If you are concerned, now is the time to do the research on the area, contact the city authorities or speak to someone on campus about your concerns. This may help alleviate your worries.

We live in suburban Chicago, which is not without it's own level of crime (particularity gang activity). Arm your kids with knowledge of the area first. We personally feel it is very safe.

I grew up in nyc, went to public school and i can assure you that if you think tally is "ghetto", then you haven't seen very much.

The key, as the previous post mentioned is to educate your child to be aware of his/her surroundings, travel in goups (especially at night) and apply common sense.

Every college town we visited (pittsburgh, gainesville, miami, madison, providence etc) has some elements of the population that can be considered questionable. it is this way in most places. the FSU campus is very safe and the bar area on t street is , well a college bar area. the downtoen is very nice and well maintained and as you drive on the side roads in tally (which we have done extensively), some are good, some not so good.

the key is to know where the "not so good" areas are, and avoid them.

It really depends where you go in Tallahassee. I've driven through some rougher areas but then I've seen the beautiful part of Tallahassee as well. The majority of it is beautiful but there are a FEW areas that are iffy but those are on the outskirts of town. I've lived here since August now and I feel pretty safe on campus. With all the blue lights, SAFE connection, Night Nole, and the amount of people who are always walking around at night, I feel good.
